501A with 18650 or 18500?

I bought a 501a host from Manafont and it is very well made. A 16340 looks lonely and small in there. Is there a way to use bigger cells?

With a 16340 it is a pocket rocket already, using a Manafont UF 3 mode dropin at over 3A.

I use an IMR 18350 in that body. Bought mine from bestinone.net

Kokopelli? How on earth did a South West USA Fertility God find his way to Turkey?

BTW, I won the 1972 European, African, Middle Eastern championships in Judo, light weight class. I had a match in Ankara and also won the Championship in Madrid and Addis Ababa.

The point is, I want to stuff MAX power into a small body.

the 18350s are great in the 501a. it never occurred to me, but i suppose it would be possible, maybe, to get a 18500 in there also.

The new Trustfire flame 18350s work the best for me.

I have been to Arizona once. I really liked the way they used this figure on almost anything. I read the story about Kokopelli and liked it. Who doesn't like the stories about fertility gods ? :) I use the nick for ten years.

18350 is a great compromise for size and capacity. IMR batteries really give that power in small packages and I have been more than happy with bestinone's cheap IMRs. They seem to match the capacity written on them.

just tried and a little too big with the positive cap removed

did you remove the springs and everything? i don't have any 18500's, and never tried, but it looks like it would be close if you loosen the head of the light a little, etc. maybe it is just that though, close, but not close enough.

do you like the new flames better than the bestinone imr's?

Yes definitely once the Flames have a couple cycles on them they really wake up. They all deliver well over 3.5 amps now. The bestinones on the other hand have all tired out and barely deliver 3 amps now. I have switched over to all Flames now on my XML 501As. I should update my battery test.

good to know. i still really like my imr cells, but i haven't used them all that much yet. i will consider that a recommdation and pick up some new flames! thanks for the info.

Thanks for this. I just ordered a couple Trustfire flame 18350's for my wf-501a.

Gentlemen,

Thank you all for your comments.

I have ordered the 18350 TF cells.

I have a SolarForce L2 tailcap that is longer than the 501a cap and works fine on the 501a. It looks like it should be easy to make an 18500 fit by removing the switch and brazing in a plate with a nub or spring the right length. The tailcap would then be a twist type switch.

im using my sf 1 mode drop in with the big spring removed and positive cap removed, i can close it with the head loosened but will take some fiddling to make it work.

Using the 18350 Orange ones on my 501a.

Nice little light, smaller than L2m.
