20700 Batteries What is real?

OK, thanks for the info Dale. :+1: … Thanks for asking J-Dub too.

Anyone have numbers on the newer C8’s? Also the M1 might have a thicker tube. The narrowest point of OD will be at the O-ring lands.

This is latest C8 I think, with integrated shelf. The OD at the flat with the brand label is 23.01mm. The o-ring spot is 20.98mm OD.

Thanks, that means these are still an viable option for wood sleeved tubes that require a .5 mm brass liner for circuit continuity. Anyone have the numbers on the fixed shelf M1?

IMR Batteries just emailed say'n they got an iJoy 20700 3000 mAh cell. Guess they added an iJoy label to the SANYO 20700A and added $2.

It's a good cell for sure though.

And here I sit, broker’n a broke d* dog. :frowning:

Thanks for the heads up on these Tom, maybe they’ll still have some next week…

On the bore size, maybe asking J-Dub for a 21mm bore now would be better since several types of 21700 batteries are sure to come down the road in the near future and rather than get 20mm bore tubes this year and have to ask for 21mm bore tubes next year……

Lengthwise, I assume cutting the springs to get the extra 5mm length can be done but I suppose making the battery tube 5mm longer might be better.

Got these today… real tight to the ID of my Texas Lumens light, and I even flapped and polished the inside of the battery tube, when I got it, my Sanyo 20770A’s fit no problem. Re-wraped!

The re-wrap states that the cell was made in Japan! Performs the same as my A’s!!!

I think making a thicker C8 battery tube to bore out to 20 or 21mm will require a complete redo of the tailcap and tube - larger diameter tailcap threads and a tube with no flats or clip grooves.

On the other hand, the Olight M23 (an expensive but very nice host no doubt) already has larger diameter tailcap threads but the battery tube still has flats and a clip groove. Does anyone have an Olight M23 to take diameter measurements of the flats and clip groove (with boring out to 21mm in mind) ?

Here are some pics of the Olight M23 showing the larger diameter tailcap threads and the unfortunate battery tube clip groove under the grip ring:

Another expensive option might be the Olight M2X-UT which seems to come with a similar oversize tailcap but without the deep clip groove of the M23.

I have an Olight M2X-UT, not a likely candidate for a tube bore…

I know I am late coming to this post, and I did not read every comment. :innocent:
Though I did read many of them.

Pertaining to this new 20700 cell. Several months ago, I came across some 20650 cells. Rated at 3350mAh. I bought a bunch of them, and changed out the batteries in many of my small single 18650 flashlights, that were built for, and came with a triple battery carrier for ’AAA’, and a sleeve for narrowing it down, to use with a 18650. Those new 20650’s that I bought then, slipped right in.

Here is the Amazon listing I bought them from, for about $5.00 each, delivered > http://amzn.to/2rg7Ydv

i have a set incoming to test.
hoping they are good enough for power tools.
would work nice in versapak sticks if they do.
the 26650 they sell are decent.not quite liitokalas but good.

Yes snakebite, these cells are for a niche use. Make sure to let us know how that turns out for you.

With these single cell flashlights I had (plus friends and family), that have the bigger 3 - AAA bore. They sure did work well, and freed-up all of those 18650’s that were getting used, for other flashlights. None of us use the AAA battery carriers.

Part of the reason I mentioned it here was. Maybe some of these flashlights will take the (Tesla) 20700 as well? A flashlight with a spring at each end, should just about do it.

I do have a few of the EBL 26650’s (5000mAh) and they do work well, in non-high drain situations. The 18650’s that they offer, are not as good. When compared to all of the 18650’s that we have access to.

i need to meaure a few of my 3aaa lights.
iirc they are all 22.5mm
several have 20700 in them with room to spare.

:+1: :sunglasses:

the 3 i have handy range from 23.03-23.13.
all 3 are elcheapo 3aaa.
2 cheap zoomies and a hf freebie.
the hf has its head guts offset to just allow 18650.
an ncrb just fits.

Thanks snakebite.
So now maybe we should be lobbying manufacturers for 23650’s?

imrbatteries now has a dark purple Efest 20700 in stock. 3000mAh and 30A continuous rating. Ordered a couple to see how they fare…

does not resemble a samsung or sanyo.
probably another chinese cell.
i will be watching for a full report.
i have the ebl incoming and will compare with those pics.

I have a pair of Tom’s A series that I will do a direct comparison with, in my triple XHP-50.2 where amperage can go up around 25+, we’ll see how this new Efest metallic purple 20700 compares to the early release “real deal” (yes Tom, I remember where these came from, intend to be sending them back soon. )
