Those "spots" are Vias, basically the positive and negative contact is made from the back side, basically a Direct Attach or Flip Chip design whereas the XP-G etc. have contacts on the top and bottom of the chip, the top contacts are the metal lines you see, called current spreaders, whereas the vias make connection to the top by going through the chip.
