ALL THINGS BUDGET KNIVES

Is there a Chinese seller which has Rough Rider knifes.
I found only an US seller with a big selection.

Are any opinions about that brand?

Joe

Thank you very much, sir. :+1:
But the prices are worst than Italy…But there are some good knives to choose, for sure!

I give you all another web address, is in France, there are a lot of brands which some very good prices. Here you are: knives seller in france with free shipping!

Hi Joe, smkw.com is the main productor of Rough Rider knives! But now they do not send/sell knives anymore outside USA :frowning:
In Europe you can find some good choise in the address I have posted, but for a lot of reason, if you see a knife at smkw.com at 10$ you can be sure that here in Europe you will find the same knife at 20 euro…

If you find some good, please tell me, thank.

Got a Byrd Tern clone today, seems tiny in the hand compared to the UKPK, but it should still be a nice addition to the daily rotation.

The ‘lock’ is decent, with a very strong stop at 90°.

Blade centering is good, very little play in the blade. Haven’t taken it apart (yet), but it appears to have bronze washers.

As with a few of the Chinese knives I’ve gotten, the edge centering is awful…going to have to spend some time evening it up:

I too can recommand thebestknives.eu/.fr (ordered a dozen knives from them without problems, never used after sales services though). They do free shipping for domestic orders, don’t know shipping price for other countries, though.

Does anyone know of a cheap Damascus steel pocket knife? Would like to to be less than 30-40$ preferably. I don’t even know if they exist.

Check out Boker knives, they have quite a range of modestly priced knives with folded steel blades.

Sorry then and thank you for the link

Thank you! Yes you are right: free shipping is only for France, no other countries. :+1:
Probably I will buy a coupple of knife from them, stay tuned!

No problem, thank you for the suggestion

Can you guys recommend a knife for carving poplar?

Maybe not that much budget, but here’s my review of the HX outdoor ZD005:

Comments are welcome.

Poplar is a wonderful carving wood and I’d probably go for a Mora wood carving knife maybe like this:

Check out the different blades shapes and sizes with a scandi grind at Ragweed Forge

I took a very small Mora blade blank and crafted a handle for it. I use it mostly as a marking knife for woodworking but it is superb for carving when I need it.

Not a bad little knife from Amazon for £13, Lifetime Guarantee, Will Not Rust, Yeah Right.

I’ve finished my review about the Spyderco C192 PITS copy.
After the Positron this is another excellent deal from the budget category:

Have a look on Aliexpress.

Maybe also the Enlan EL01D or EL02D, currently at Gearbest for 37.22 respectively 26.75 $$, are worth to take a look at.

It’s not damascus STEEL, it’s only an acid etching pattern, a decoration.

Do you have one?
According to at least one review of the Des Horn, it’s real Damascus.
I don’t have one so can’t say for sure but I am believe that it’s doable in China in the $40 price range, so I would think it is folded steel.

At the same time, the Enlan EL01 as suggested above by Mac is also a good alternative.
If you look the reviews on Fasttech, there is a review by 8steve88 that confirms it is folded steel.
8steve88 is very well regarded both on the fasttech and on this forum so I believe him.
That shows again that damascus can be had below $40.

I didn’t even realize that’s what I was cutting last weekend because I was cutting burned trees, but I realized it was something special by how smoothly it would saw. Unfortunately I took too long to order, so I’ll have to see about getting one for the following weekend.

I’ll try that. I saw a couple of reviews on youtube stating that they are acid etched. That’s why it’s hard.
