ALL THINGS BUDGET KNIVES

OK
I give up.
Nobody cares.
Carry on. (carrion)

I have dozens of knives and I've never received a dull blade.

You're right; there is no excuse for one.

I would be a little upset if I received one, but my sharpening method is fast and easy, so it would be a quick fix for me.

For me the sharpest knives out of box were my Real Steel Griffin and the TwoSun TS51

The knife that never held it’s sharpness was a Ganzo G7531CF but the Kershaw Cryo was what I’d call a heavy folding prybar

My Kershaw Chill’s 8Cr13MoV was not much better when it comes to edge retention but I really like that knife and I wish they’d make one with D2 at least.
Single brass colored washers but buttery smooth deployment, I like it this much:

I agree with you; your annoyance is justified. For a knife to ship blunt it means there was no QC step in the production line. (or very lazy QC)
No matter whether the problem can be quickly rectified by buyer or not - it is not acceptable.

My opinion is that Ganzo prioritize the look of their knives. Many times they want to copy the overall look of superior knives - Spyderco, BM etc. Or they want to use blue hardware to give an impression of luxury.

The function - how well it cuts, tolerances, locking mechanism, quality of screws, QC etc - comes much lower in their list of priorities.

Most people here agree with your points, Ganzo’s QC is hit or miss, if you want good quality for that price, choose a Sanrenmu.

Still we’re talking about sub-$20 knives here that would cost around 50 if Kershaw or CRKT was stamped on them, even if they come from the same factory.

You can even find some of them branded as EliteForce or Boker Magnum. Twice the price, same quality, people still buy them.

Ha, just check what knives you get at home depots around Europe for the price of a Ganzo.
Ugly edgy no-name lockback behemoths or sloppy slipjoints is what you get.

I’m sorry for my pique, I really do like the knife and the FB7603 also. Amazing at those prices.

An additional aside from the selloff of my collection. I shipped globally, which at that time was quite reasonable, to Spain, France, Japan, Russia, Australia, Germany, Romania and many others. I never had any go missing, although the Spyderco Calypso (which sold for $400) worried me at 2 months. The buyer was calm throughout, saying “It’s Russia!”

Just get an Opinel or a Mora

Nah… And in the usual OBI or such you can’t even find those.

Here in CH you can find Victorinoxes at any shop at least, even though I only like the Alox models.
Maybe one day a Hunter Pro Alox if there’s a color that I like.

Vic Hunter Pro in alox? Seems unlikely but who knows.

On a site note, all the Cold Steels I have (budget line models) came sharp out of the box. Consistent QC is worth a few bucks more :+1:

Too big and too expensive for my taste, for $50 I could probably think about it.

Wow! a very good price!!
Can I ask you were did you buy it, please?
Thank you very much.

On ebay (PM sent!)

Do you see the new fixed knives from Hx outdoors?. I wonder why their new knives are using 440 steel instead of their usual 440C…

I find their knives ugly :confounded: (except 2 or 3 models)

I see GB has listed a $tr0ngärm clone
https://www.gearbest.com/fixed-blades-knives/pp_009427737906.html

440C they say :crown: Could be anything from 3Cr13 to 9Cr18…

Now they have made some new models, all with tactic style, a pair are not bad. But with 440 and not 440C.

That knife who knows… i do not buy knives without a brand.

Just searching around on Amazon. Found a Kershaw Chill on sale for $16.95. Not sure if it’s a good deal or not but, it looks like a decent little flipper.

That's the lowest price I could find brand new.

If I didn't only go for knives with metal handles, I'd get a Kershaw Chill.

For that price you must try it!

In my opinion it’s one of the best flippers with standard washers, I only wish they’d make a batch with better steel.

Two new Honey Badger Flippers watching carefully over my two Zebras!

Sanrenmu has finally released large models, it’s about time! I leave you my review of one of those models:
