Not sure about the low-voltage thing but I seem to remember reading that flat top cells don’t work (looking at the picture below, it would make sense that it needs projected/button-top cells) My one lap-top pull so far had spot-welded tabs that left flat-top cells when removed.

have been wanting a black SRK for a long time now, i might have to jump on it. does the srk have low voltage cutoff? i plan to use unprotected cells, i have quite a few from laptops

Jerry I have a SRK that I use lap top battery’s in and I had to add solder to the top of them so there was good contact.

Box is definitely different from the CNQ’s (clone & real): thin-walled and appears to open from the end - not a box with lid and protective foam cradle - lacks logo sticker from BIGWOOD’s post above as well as CNQ site.

Someone might want to query fasttech on this: given that they’ve had some packaging complaints on this forum (my package - not SRK but included retail boxed item - was packed adequate for a small drop/toss but not crush… it was), I’d want to make sure this baby was arriving to me foam-cradled.

My first King was from FastTech…and in the ad package was stated as Plain. BUT it arrived exactly as your lower pic…heavy box with heavy lid and with foam cutout. Guess I was lucky.

Well, after looking at the ads they do show a flimsy box and I’ll bet that’s what it ships in. However, they stated to me it would ship well protected. Too bad they cut pennies cost from a very nice protective case. It had better be in bubble wrap is all I can say.

I did try at the right page/time, still didn’t work, when I ordered my UV-S5 it didn’t work then either.
Tried to contact them today, just comes up with error code, but everything else working ok.

I'm kind of tempted, but already have two... decisions, decisions.

Just ordered the black cool white version. BLF coupon worked no problem. Came to $39.90
Ordered some resistors to mod it with when it shows up.
I’ll post back when it arrives with some impressions.

That is definitely warm white, maybe 7C tint.
