BLF style 18650 1s thrower( poor mans Olight M2X)

Throw only slightly depends on how deep the reflector is and almost entirely depends on the front diameter of the reflector. So the HS 802 will have no better throw than a C8.

But it sure is an interesting light, it will have a wider hotspot and narrower spill than a C8.

Yes it almost have no spill(good for hunters)only pure intense hotspot… While sidespill may certainly mess with our night vision; pupil of the eye narrows and we see less. The brighter the enviroment is, the narrower is the pupil of the eye, so there’s a reduction in light that hits the fundus. Hotspot type of a beam like aspheric or HS802 makes that we perceive throw further in the night. There is better contrast between illuminated area and dark area. The enhanced contrast lets us to perceive throw brighter, further and cleaner on target eliminating those reflective issues (especially reflection from barrel once when we have mounted light).

But different animal than C8… HS 802 imho throws better than C8, and has better pill and more modding friendly than Supwildfire.

So still available budget super thrower reflector flashlight hosts:
Supwildfire (Mitkos thrower)
HS802 Uniquefire
C8 global standard

I would of course change them all for quality aspheric light.

I have a TrustFire 168A, which has an even deeper reflector of 60.5mm

The SupwildFire has a rather shallow reflector.

But (as said) it’s apparently the frontal surface of the reflector that counts, so the Supwildfire will win, but i’m sure that at some point a reflector can be too shallow to collect a decent amount of light from the LED, but then again, that would cost reflector frontal surface area too.

I did not even knew for this Trustfire 168A host… “Apparently?”

Apparently does not counts in my book. Only real world moding experiece with same driver, same emitter. These deep reflector lights seems like perfect choice for new osrams.

What I know is that recently modded HS 802(btw I always unfairly thought that this light is super cheap junk) for one of mine friend who wanted super throw and that 18650 last for longer time. So with XP-E2 dedomed(R5 i think but i am not sure, still have plenty of them lying around and since I worked for free looked like a reasonable choice), 2.1A driven Nanjg gave me incredible 200 kcd results on cheap UNI-T luxmeter which works better for me than much more expensive Tesy meter.

So according to that results(if they are correct) same light could give around 300 kcd with s42b dedomed fet driven and even more with osram white flat 1mm? Anyway it should give around 300 kcd. But visually should throw further than Supwildfire because that pure hotspot vs sidespill effect that messes with human vision.

Anyway I will order that Trustfire since it has even deeper reflector than Uniquefire and will see… It is bit dear price on ali but will try to find somewhere else.

So budget reflector 1x18650 throwers:
Supwildfire
Trustfire 168A
Uniquefire HS802
C8 standard global

Fasttech has them, i bought mine there at the time (2014).

But you never know if they have old stock actually in stock.
Best if you contact them first to be sure.

Jerommel,

I have been researching on this deep reflector lights… I came to one video where I found that maybe HS 802 could be better choice.
There are several version of HS802 circling around and there is one crazy HS802…

Look: how to change the HS 802 flashlight LED Pill - YouTube

So this should be extra modding friendly experience: heat transfer directly from aluminum pill(al is better and lighter than brass imho) to reflector which is rarely seen in flashlight world and which should enable perfect centering of reflector without to much fiddling, centering, gluing etc.

So we need that better version of 802.

The problem is that several versions of HS802 are circling around. Probably “clone of a clone”. I modded old style where the brass pill is screwed into flashlight body and reflector was detachable it was not merged with pill like in mentioned tube video of 802.

That one in video is just crazy. When I saw that I instantly wanted to order but no idea where or how since now are CNY holidays.

But now I am in a hunt for that version of 802.

Oh, that’s nice with that pill + reflector drop in set up.

Must be impossible to know for sure which version you buy…

It seems you can tell by the grooves in the head, and also by the price…
Of course the one you want is more expensive

By the price? You got some info? If you can find it please link it. I would like to order.
