Convoy S2+ Desert Tan Available Now!

Thanks MascaratumB for those comparison images. Very useful! Can Simon install these as standard on request or is it modder only?

There is a notice in a large font size at the top of the homepage of the Convoy aliexpress store that clearly states no deliveries until after October 7. Not in those exact words, but just saying…

Glad it helped
Hum, I never posed myself that question. I guess those are mostly modding options.

But, communication with Simon is pretty easy going, so maybe (reinforce, maybe!) he is open to that situation, to send a light with TIR optics by request.
In previous orders I asked him driver changes (3/5 modes to biscotti) and he arranged that, adjusting the price, of course!

Maybe this can be a similar situation! If you can, please contact him and ask that

BTW, his store will be closed the next days, due to Chinese holiday! The Convoy Store @ AliExpress mentions that! As korpzgrinda said above ^

I ordered weeks ago. Was hoping for at least an acknowledgement. The banner doesn’t show up as I’m always on my phone.

That’s very odd, as I made an order on 9/19 and saw the tracking number was issued on 9/23. It’s supposedly at the Shenzen sorting center now. Not sure if any of that information will help, but I hope there isn’t any huge delay and it works out OK for you.

Anyone know if the Desert Tan S2+ at GearBest uses 8*7135? https://www.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_724946.html
I have a fellow light painter interested, but requiring the 3/5mode firmware for the constant 10Hz strobe instead of the variable strobe in the latest Biscotti version.

Ordered mine 9/14 but it was a special with biscotti if that makes a difference

Let’s make a note here: the deep reflector on the left is for the S2, not the S2+.

S2: thin pill, deep reflector
S2+: thick pill, shallow reflector

Was it advertised as having Biscotti?

Only newer models are advertised with biscotti, but you can ask Simon to mix and match the host, driver, led and reflector in the older listings

My desert tan s2+ left New Jersey 3 days ago so it might be here tomorrow. Thanks to the failure to acquire a light offered by another member I had deposited funds to cover (I keep a minimal balance in the account linked to paypal and deposit as needed - bank employees are familiar with my reason and I go there often enough that I’m greeted by them by name when I walk in) but today I went to a different branch while shopping for mom and after waiting in line for over 1/2 hour found someone else got it and I had funds in the account I didn’t want to leave there. It didn’t take long to decide how to use them. I really liked the lucidrv driver I purchased from DrJones that I had in the S2 I sent to my brother in Tampa and ordered a h17f from RMM. I have a feeling this will be a really nice combination - an s2+ with thermal regulation and configurable mode groups.

Thank you MascaratumB for your extremely informative and helpful posts!

Received my desert tan s2+ today and am mostly happy with it. The color is somewhere about midway between my baked astrolux s41 and baked convoy l4. As I suspected, since I find the 3d tint my preferred cree tint the 3a tint though a bit cooler is a good alternative. My only negative observation is the gap between the tailcap and battery tube. It will be simple enough to remove about 1mm from the tube to eliminate it. The H17F was shipped from mtnelectronics today and based on past orders will arrive friday or saturday. When I install it I plan to sand down the centering ring a bit and install spring bypasses. It’s also possible I might change my mind and put the H17F in the s41, the s41’s driver in the s2+ (I like bi-directional mode stepping), and order a few TA boards from osh park to build.

Overall the quality is excellent. I like the feel of the metal button more than the slightly mushy feeling silicone covers commonly used although that mushy feeling is relatively simple to fix using a bit of rtv silicone and a razor blade. The reflector is smooth and without flaws. Anodizing is excellent with no blemishes. Though replies were curt and after mentioning blf no discount was offered or applied I feel the price was fair for the quality and would not hesitate to buy from Simon again.

My replacement Desert Tan S2+ has arrived and works perfectly. Thanks Simon!

Now you can start modding the first one :smiling_imp:

I’d like to ask if the Biscotti for the Convoy S2+ Desert Sand and the Biscotti for the Convoy C8 Clear is exactly the same or not?

I got both flashlights now — Convoy S2+ Desert Sand w/ Biscotti from AliExpress official store (Simon), while the Convoy C8 Clear XP-L Hi w/ Biscotti, I got from Banggood.

They work mostly the same, but the “timer” of the Convoy S2+ seems to be extremely fast (the timing of the S2+ possibly twice as fast as the C8).
For instance, the tactical strobe:
in the C8, I can noticeably see the 2-flash, 1-flash pattern, which repeats.
on the S2+, it just seems a continuous quick flashes (flashing a lot faster than the one on the C8)

Or the Battery Check mode:
in the C8, I can count the number of flashes, as there’s a short pause in between.
on the S2+, it’s flashing too quickly, sometimes I couldn’t differentiate if it’s 3 flashes or 4 flashes (4 flashes = fully charged)

Or the Mode Configuration:
in the C8, each mode will flash once to 12 times (eg. flash once, pause, flash twice, pause, up to flashing 12 times, to choose mode 12), click the button after the mode “X” to select;
on the S2+, it’s flashing too quickly, that it’s almost impossible to time it right (must click the button after the mode “xx” number of flashes); the “pause” in between the flash counting is too short.

Is this a problem with my S2+ firmware? Or is it really designed to have a much faster timer (my guess is around twice as fast as the timer on the C8)?

Your S2+ has a first batch Biscotti driver, it sounds like. I don’t remember the specifics, but yes, it works at twice the intended speed. There’s a lot of info about it on the Convoy C8 Clear thread.

You mean there are different batches of Biscotti drivers? I just received the Convoy S2+ less than 2 weeks ago (ordered it sometime late August or early September from the official store).

Anyway it can be fixed? The timing, especially when changing mode configuration is very difficult…

Just a first one with this sped up timing, the rest is fixed

People, I have some doubts about a new configuration for a S2+ Desert Tan!

I need a flashlight with a moonlight level from about 0.2 to 0.4 lumens !

But I didn’t want to go for a super expensive light, so I started checking the lights I have and ended up modding 2 (that apparently produce less than 0.2 lumen – I don’t have means to measure it, though…).

They have a Reylight driver (ML-L-M-H) and both have XML2 T6-3B and T6-4C LEDs. The ML levels are lower than I imagined they would be and will provide less than the amount of light I need.

Top > Down = S2+ DT (XPL-HI U6-3A) > Amutorch S3 with XML2 T6-4C Reylight driver+ > cheappo AA/14500 zoomie with XML2 T6-B + Reylight driver
(first without lenses and/or reflectors, second with those)

So I turned to my Convoys S2+ in the mode 2 of biscotti (0,1 – 1 – 10 – 35 – 100%) to check which one had the lowest level.
From sight, it seems that the Desert Tan (8*7135 chips, XPL-HI U6-3A) has the lowest 0,1% mode, comparing to to XML2 U2-1A and XML2 T6-4C.
This is probably related to the dome of the XML2, I assume.

Therefore, I’m also assuming that XPL-HIs will probably produce lower moonlight levels than XML2.
So, I’m trying to figure out the best option for a S2+ Desert Tan with the lowest level. Please help me on this and correct me if I’m wrong on these specs:

- biscotti driver with 4*7135 chips (I’ll configure it on mode 2)

  • XPL-HI U6-4C (4200-4500K)

Placing just 4*7135 chips will lower the output level and the U6-4C LED will certainly reduce the output, comparing to U6-3A! Am I correct?

I also wanna ask: does the Desert Tan metal tailcap work with forward clicky switch, to get momentary ON feature? I need it to walk at home, at night, so momentary ON allows to not make the click noise !

Your inputs on this are highly appreciated  Thanks in advance!!
