thin tube lights are not designed for throwing, if you want to throw buy a bigger head light (or an aerodynamic rock)
I do have one tube light that actually throws pretty well. It is a Fenix E35 (the original, not the Ultimate Edition model). My two E35s are some of the last of the original E35s, and have XP-E2 emitters. Their beam profiles are quite similar to my Xin-TD V5, though the Xin-TD is brighter.
Funny thing is, I rarely use my E35 lights. If I need to use a thrower, I go for a bigger, brighter light like my Xin-TD. If I need a broader beam or brighter spill (such as what I use out in the yard), I go for one of my Convoy tube lights.
the XP-E is the reason it has throw, if you use XM-L it will have much less throw, and if you put an XP-E into a larger head light with similar power output its throw will increase beyond your fenix
