FW3A, a TLF/BLF EDC flashlight - SST-20 available, coupon codes public

Wrong end of the head. Just unscrew the bezel.

Iā€™m sorry if this has been addressed already, but was there ever an update on a stainless bezel for the FW3A? I know it was discussed at one point. Iā€™d really like one.

Thanks guys for the replies!!

The fit was so good that it did not look like the whole thing unscrews.

Iā€™m going to second this comment! With anodizing as weak as whats on this light it NEEDS a stainless steel bezel.

Nice combo! Itā€™s titanium versiĆ³n or Raw Aluminum?

Looks just like mine, Iā€™d say polished titanium with an aqua glow gasket.

Seems Lumintop also changed the FET from the very good Infineon to some crappy one to save production costs

from my modding guide batch 1 FW3A

Oh no. What kind of negative effects can we expect to see from the cheaper FET?

P.S. My FW3A is the raw aluminium one. I was too cheap to get titanium!

Maybe a bit less lumens on Turbo.

It depends on itā€™s quality. I have no clue how good or bad this new FET is. On really high powered lights, 30A+, cheap ones might burn up and fail, but the FW3A doesnt pull many amps. Sometimes cheap FETs will leak current and make the LEDs glow all the time. This can be an issue if the parasitic drain is high, but if itā€™s low enough, itā€™s no big deal.

Seems to be true. This effect was found on a recently offered flashlight:

Thats a realy bad behaviour especialy for this flashlight because it has no real physical lockout. With lockout, you only loose the switch-contact.

If that was caused by a FET downgrade, thatā€™s a pretty big problem. If it was caused by something else, like stray bits of metal in places it shouldnā€™t be, itā€™s also a problem but a very different type. There have been some documented cases of the inside of the light having extra bits of metal inside so it needed cleaning before it could work normallyā€¦ but a leaky FET would be a brand new issue if itā€™s real.

Is there any chance they could investigate to determine what was allowing current to leak?

Speaking of more changes. I got a raw AL model and it appears to have a Carclo copy + AR glass. The optic window looks more clear but it doesnā€™t look as well focused either due to the size of the LED opening or due to the height above the dome. Need to open it up and do more investigating.

When I take spectral measure of this new one the lux is worse (less) but the Duv is better than even my UCL + real 10511. I donā€™t trust my sphere to accurately tell me which has higher output but I will say itā€™s close enough that I think the difference is more beam angle/TIR shape related than just poor efficiency of the optic. CCT and CRI are also close enough that it should be all the same bin.

Ah I see they finally changed the 18350 tubeā€¦ :+1:

I might have told Neal (I did) I didnā€™t like the look of the first versionā€¦this new version looks better and is going to be smaller the ones I makeā€¦

Wow that color looks amazing! What color is that?

Color? Aux LEDā€™s or Lights?

What color are the lights.

I never like the long slop on the 18650 tube, so a 18350 tube that is mainly a long slope really makes me
