Don’t get me wrong… I do appreciate quality stuff and rare materials. I personally don’t see the value in this. Now, if they somehow can put an XHP 70.2 in there and make it output 5000 lumens that would be actually cool. This doesn’t even put out 500 lumens. And it looks like a reflector from kaidomain. Even the claims of gold-plated contacts are meant to conjure up thoughts of exclusivity - the cheapest Chinese circuit boards have gold-plated contacts. Gold doesn’t make better contacts - it just makes more anti-corrosive contacts; there are metals that have higher conductivity than gold. Gold is so soft and can be stretched out so far that plating the miniscule contacts amounts to pennies worth of gold. Sapphire lens - my $149 Armitron watch has a sapphire lens. O-ring seals, just like a $5 UltraFire light… It’s nice, but not $3000 nice. Not even $1000 nice. It’s a fancy tube that has electronics inside that can be found in a light you can buy for under $20. There’s no exclusivity there.
On the other hand (no pun intended) I love watches. A watch as a man’s accessory is timeless (again no pun intended.) And there is precision craftsmanship on a microscopic level with insanely small tolerances.

If restaurants exist that charge 200 bucks for a few morsals that probably have less nutritional value then a big mack, why not a 3000 buck flashlight.
I know of a down to earth guy who was a CEO and parachuted out. He can’t find ways to spend something like 30 million a year income….although I try to help him. What difference would a $3,000 flashlight mean to him?
Here is one way I think of it….if I add a zero to my net worth, I subtract a zero from my toys. A guy like that is 3 zeros above our heads. Subtract three zeros and it’s a 3 buck light.
Harrumph! This thing is operating at many levels: Technology applied to art, art applied to technology, conspicuous consumerism, an expression of self-perceived self-worth, trophy flashlight, unrestrained capitalism, clever charlatanism, class warfare ..., I could go on.
I appreciate this light. It speaks to me, where the species stands technology-wise/art-wise. But it is not much of a value functionally. A waste of money for most of us. I could settle for the Flieger Mk.1 Aluminum Bronze. $550.00, nice to look at, 720 Lm, and a size more suited to my short fingers and wide palms. And Aluminum Bronze. Don't see that everyday.

Those flashlights on Etsy are cool. Handmade and unique. And best of all at a reasonable price. Almost all the money goes to the artist. Not making fun of Etsy at all. They have nice accessories for Victorinox knives also.
I agree with what you’re saying. But just for a little perspective. The host of this flashlight is possibly over $1000 worth of just raw material, meaning before it was machined into a flashlight host. Look up Moku-Ti online. I found a place that sells Damascus plates for making knife parts. A thin plate of Moku-Ti was over $500 there. I’m not saying it’s “worth” that much to me but it seems to be worth it to some people. That means this flashlight, if truly made to a quality level, might be “worth” $1500. Still not seeing $3000 for sure.

If I was going to splurge on a $3000 item I’d get a SIG P210. The holster price is really…….amazing. Now I feel bad only spending $15 on plastic holsters
