Looking for an inexpensive thrower

Fasttech has a Romisen version of the 3xAAA C8 light that might be decent, says it has an XP-E

Is there anything like a UltraFire C8 XM-L U2, that uses AA’s (4 max) or 14500’s (2 max) instead? I’m comfortable with swapping LED’s and drivers, but I don’t want to spend more than $20 total. I was also thinking about just getting a C8 and extension tube(s) and making adapter for 3 AA’s.
