Need help looking for a multifunction charger. Will this one work with 18650 and 16430 batteries?

Shipping isn't included, so it's way too expensive. You should be able to find it around $17 with free shipping..

It does include free shipping to the US which is where I am.

btw, I had a concern about that charger. It says it's supposed to be able to charge 16340 batteries but looking at the picture, the charging contacts look like they are way too far apart for 16340 batteries. Am I missing something?

Also, can it charge single batteries at a time or does it require two batteries to charge safely? And what about batteries at different levels of charge? Can it handle that?

You need some spacers to charger 16340. The charger has two independent channels, i.e. it can charge one or two cells at a time. The only common setting is the current at it has to be at 0.5 A when charging 16340, i.e. charging a 16340 and 18650 at the same time will take extra long time for the 18650.

hrmm...hadn't counted on needing spacers. How about the TR001 charger? That looks like it will charge 16340s without needing spacers. Does that one have two independent channels and can handle either one battery alone or batteries at different charge levels?

It looks like some sellers does include spacers with it.

I have not tested the TR001, but it looks like the Cytac CY-015 and if it charges the same way it is not exactly a good charger. You can see more about CY-015 in my review.

May i ask how did your car catch on fire........did your water heater short out the breaker box......dude be safe, and please get some good cells, you dont want to lose your fingers. Your other best bet would be to ask if your friends have any dead laptops laying around and then cannibalizing the packs to get the cells....dont know if that would be a safe and good idea for you to try, but then again you will be dealing with unprotected cells so i would just scrap that idea. Read a little more into it because this would be a very good way to save some mullah. And as for the spacer you can always make your own, as long as the bottom terminal hits the negative side of the battery then your good.

Well, the first car was a ford escort and apparently it had a known problem where this little plastic piece could melt and cause the positive and negative battery terminals to short circuit and catch fire. The fire department had to come out for that one. The other one was an old 300ZX that had a fuel injector leak and caused a fuel fire. The TV was me attempting to repair one of the old big screen projection TVs that had the 3 separate bulbs inside. I managed to leak some of the fluid that was in the bulbs on the circuit board and it caught fire. The breaker box was me putting together an old computer with the old AT style power supplies. I connected it backwards and managed to blow out the house. The water heater was me trying to adjust the temp and I accidentally touched the power lead and zapped myself and got blown backwards.

These things tend to follow me around!

Dude you need to be more careful......were talking about lights that use small hand grenades to generate power, lol. Read more on my post, i kept editing it, look into it and learn what you can, it might be something that you may want to try. Well this xmas we usually go to Dade to visit my inlaws and i hope we can meet up if there is time.

All of the stories I've read about these batteries and lights blowing up were mainly multi-cell lights where one battery was bad and caused the others to discharge rapidly. Is this the biggest thing to be careful for? I do have a multimeter and will check the voltage on the batteries.

What I'm not sure of is whether the cheap travel charger I have that came with the trustfire Z5 can charge one battery at a time or if it requires two batteries. Also not sure if it can charge batteries that have different charge levels.

Your best bet would be to try one battery and if the light comes on then it is charging.....if you feel unsafe about this then put it in a pot with the lid on or better yet a habachi grill to be on the safe side......looking at the back on dx it would seem to me that it would do single or two cells.

Because here is the same charger but sold seperately from the light.....

Excellent! Thanks for that info. At least now I know what charger I have and based on the reviews on DX it seems to be decent for what it is. Maybe I'll hold off on buying another charger for the time being until I see how many CR123 batteries I'm going through or just decide I want a better charger.

Nice to be part of a forum.......where all we talk about is lights, batts, and chargers lol.

That is a good price for US buyers. A 100% feedback top seller so it's legit.

Dang i might need to jump on that as well....wound not mind another 18650 charger.

just got my wp2 ll from the same seller, i got it down to 15 bucks, fast shipping too.

hrmm..I made an offer for 15 bucks and it was declined immediately.
