New Convoy Deep Carry clip

I really have no idea as I didn’t actually speak to Simon about it. I feel like he probably would’ve just done it automatically because it would be silly to send 2 small packages of small parts, but I left him a nice note requesting it anyway. Can’t hurt…

Oh dear, looks like we picked a bad time to place orders. :frowning:

From Simon’s site:

Sorry, all my friends. I have severe periarthritis of shoulder and orders increase day by day. Some orders will be handled slowly, pls be patient. So sorry for the inconvenience.”

Hope Simon gets well soon.

Edit: Despite all his problems, Simon still found time to reply to my message and confirm that my entire order will indeed be sent by registered mail. I’m impressed.

Damn. :-/ I wonder if the order volume is high enough where it could make sense to hire an employee. Does Simon already have employees?

Hey Halo,
He does indeed already have some employees. I don’t know if they are enough, but he has people. Along with this move he was supposed to hire more people to help with his personal workload though I don’t know if that process is complete. I wish that he would have simply shut down during the last several weeks like many other Chinese businesses do during CNY. He has been dealing with this physical issue for a few months and he needs a vacation. All of his employees went on vacation and even the communication company that was wiring his new factory dropped everything half completed for CNY. He stayed.

Simon is very dedicated… Perhaps too much so at times. He’s dealing with an international market that has more twists and turns than what he was aiming for when he started Convoy. He wouldn’t have this problem if he hadn’t made such darn good products. Over the next month I’m hoping to see more progress toward a smooth running business which should involve easing the burden on Simon directly. Thank you for your concern Halo.

Well. I got my 5 pack. I find the clips a tad long in 18350 configuration, and I’m not sure I like how the light feels in the hand with the big clip. I also find it a bit loose in thin pockets.

That said, it is surprisingly firm and quite well made. Very good value. It may not replace all my bolt on convoy clips but I think it’s quite good.

Almost 44% price increase on the deep carry clip. Not really surprised though, $0.88 was a really good price.

LOL. $0.88 was a mistake… not that I have personal feelings on the matter or anything. It would still be a bargain if you added another 44% but that’s just my opinion. He can’t just give this stuff away forver if we’re going to keep developing better stuff and try to keep QC in check.

I had figured the $0.88 was just an introductory price.

If I recall (and I wasn’t paying attention) it was $0.88 each for a 5 pack and $2 shipping for a total of $6.40. Right now it’s $1.26 each with free shipping so buying 5 is only $6.30.

grabbed a few! tired of drilling out the tailcaps to thread in belt clips this is going to be much nicer for the convoy builds!

A note, these aren’t brittle — I was able to carefully reshape one to use on a 1xAA light (using jeweler’s pliers that have the gripping parts round, not square, so they make radius bends).
It snaps on and off just fine.

thanks for sharing that!

They were available as single items for a while, and unless I read it wrong they were $0.88 with free shipping, which is why I wasn’t surprised about the price increase.

The $0.88 price was directly tied to the single piece shipping option which I believe was through Hong Kong Post and would mean 3-5 week shipping which I am not at all a fan of.

Let me add another note of thanks. I know these “look” brittle but my experience is the same as yours. I have not had a single one bend or break though it is quite easy to tune them a bit to your liking. Honestly it’s more than I hoped for considering the design constraints we had to work within. Future designs will be even better but this is quite nice IMHO for a clip that fits the small space allowed for mounting. At twice the price I’d be quite satisfied.

I agree about the length and tension. Still very happy with this first round but It’s a bit longer than I envisioned originally and that will be addressed in the next version. I appreciate your feedback.

I should hurry up and order some of the current stock to make sure I can try both versions.

I haven’t visited this thread in a long time. All the recent discussion on the Desert Tan S2+ has brought it back to mind though. I was considering a few tweaks to the existing clip design. Now that these clips have been out there for a while it would be nice to hear some more user feedback. Personally I’ve been quite happy with mine. I have them on all my A6 and S2+ lights and have had no problems.

If you have one or more of these clips tell me what you like and what you don’t like. I want to send Simon a new drawing in the next few days.

Feel free to chime in here with your opinion on the existing design and the changes proposed below.

Here are my thoughts on design changes:

  • Widen the gap by roughly 2mm to allow the clip to fit easier over a hat brim and thick jeans/work pants
  • Bring the “U” bend back by about 3mm to allow a bit deeper carry
  • Shorten the overall length by roughly 10mm
  • Bring the clip curve where it holds onto pants, hat, etc. about 1mm deeper for just a bit more tension.

Now is your chance to throw in your two-bits.

Those are the changes I’d applaud.
I don’t dare mess with that 180 degree bend, after snapping off several of the cheapies that came with the BLF tube lights.

I don’t need them shorter, they fit fine on a shortie SK+ and I like how deep they reach over a belt or pocket, less risk they’ll rotate and pop out.
I find i can add the tension with gentle bending.

Nice!
All but the shortening seem logical.
Like mine a lot.
