I don’t post on BLF very often but I do skim the threads once in a while. A buddy pointed me to this thread which I thought was interesting. I don’t have this light in hand yet to play with but from what I have read it’s probably perfect already. New XPL domeless is coming out so that could potentially be an upgrade option thought pricey to do and wouldn’t be a lot different than the factory XPL dedome LEDs. Might get a whiter tint …
Driver doesn’t seem like it could be boosted much more as the inductor is already over-saturated at 30A. Any more boost than that would put the inductor on death row…
This driver is too good to be tossing out for another setup as it would give short initial momentary gain at best … So if anything may be a tiny boost, add lots of thermal cubes cooling for the driver and may be put in the new XPL domeless and call it a day.
Thermal cubes? Really? What gauge of wire is being used in the inductor? I'd see a trace blow off the board before an inductor winding separating. Again, depending on the gauge.
I'm holding a sack of these thermal cubes in my hand right now.. Very smooshy. I sure as hell hope its not sponge like. That would mean there is air in it. And we all know what that means.. They seem very densely packed. I'll have to put one under a microscope. Who makes these? I would like to know how they are manufactured.
Even generic silicone has 10x the thermal conductivity of air. Silicone designed for thermal applications is 30+ times better. I looked it up a while back when someone was asking about these cubes.
