Maybe it is the incandescent bulb they use. Even if you use high color rendering leds, for demanding lads & lasses they probably don't make the grade due to cut corners in their spectrum.
Certain stuff simply fit your frequency better than others. I edc my turbo :-D SK98 quite often, not only it fits well in my pocket, it exudes that special charm that (for me) DIY stuff has, especially when you have messed and improved nearly every non obvious aspect of it.
