With the distance this light can throw i’m wondering to what extent light scattering in the atmosphere influences the amount of photons you get on target, what magnitude of improvement a same flux bin warm white xhp 35 in the 2500 kelvin range would yeld in this regard over the choosen neutral white one.
While giving cool looking laser saber beamshots i can’t help but lament for all those lost photons.
What I can’t help but wonder is what would happen if I cut out an inverted dome with a hole in the top and spun up an adapter collar to allow a 7” aspheric to fit over the XHP-35……

I guess this works because it creates an intense close in focal point? I didn't know this was possible, if it's real of course...
Put an aspheric lens in front of any LED light and focus it close and you’ll be able to burn stuff.
Doesn’t mean it’s useful as a flashlight.
Combining a lens and reflector in a flashlight makes the most horrible looking spot you’ve ever seen.
it works ok. Not as hot as just getting close to the emitters, but less harmful to the flashlight anyway. Here is bigger version doing that.

You are right as of the Rayleigh law of scattering,but I, for example, don’t like this warm tint.I have a Maxtoch 2X with a weird tint and I wait till Giorgoskok finds a proper led so I have a better tint.
I have seen such a video in a K70 youtube review.
