Recommend me a budget wireless outdoor speaker

Hi makapuu,

How do you compare its sound to Bose’s soundboxes? In my opinion, Bose has just the lower end covered but quiet deficient in mid and highs, though not ear fatiguing, I simply want some more acoustic guitar strings being plucked, etc….you know what I mean haha.

If you have heard the Bose equivalent of the soundbox you are recommending and conclude that its mid and high has more “life” in it, I’m buying.

Hey Tata, it’s been a while since we talked HiFi. I haven’t heard the Bose. The Bose store we had in Hawaii pulled out about 4 or 5 years ago.
I had friends that worked there, they said just couldn’t compete with the internet.
They’re some Bluetooth speakers that are coming out with separate woofers and tweeters, dunno how they sound.
I heard they’re some high end guys that are going to jump in the BT game and even offer Torriodal Transformers and Polypropylene caps with Mili spec boards.
But that makes me wonder if those are going to be battery powered with all that amperage, and the price is probably going to be insane.
Given your audiophile background, I’m not sure if the Doss would live up to your expectations.
In my opinion, full range speakers (such as the Bose and Doss) can only go so far with the current technology.
The next leap is separates, then after that is maybe stuff like ribbons or electrostatics.
I just got the Doss because I followed clavinetjunkie and I trust his opinion because he understands and speaks our audiophile lingo and has similar sound criteria.
I’m satisfied with the sound because I use it when I’m doing things like washing the car or out in the yard having a BBQ and downing a few.
Also the price was right (potentially cheaper now) so I wouldn’t feel so bad if someone (or me) broke it.

Hi Eric,

Yeah, it’s been quite a while since we talked hifi.

While we can’t of course expect audiophile quality from these small, self-amplified speaker boxes, if it’s just a little ‘fat’ and just enough definition on the bass with at least some sharp but not too bright (not ear fatiguing) mid to hi, then it’s a go for me.

The Bass for me is the most satisfying. You could of course tweek the sound by downloading a EQ app on your phone.
I’m just running mine off a SD card because I don’t want to run down my phone battery. No EQ

Here is the link to the data base of speakers. My ear is not as refined but maybe you guys can hear the differences.

I feel price creep setting in :money_mouth_face:

I don’t know what your budget is, but I bought a jbl charge 4 refurbished from jbl. Top sound, lasts ages, is loud enough and can charge from it. Best thing like that I have ever bought, it was £79 delivered.
I’ve had a few cheap, few mid range (I suppose £79 is mid range too) and I wished I handn’t wasted the money on all the others and bought the jbl in the first place - just my opinion.
