S2+ 18350/16340 version and CR123 version

You will get roughly the same output with two 7135 as with three, or one, or eight, or whatever.
CR123 just doesn’t provide enough voltage for the driver to regulate something in this setup.

i can remove one 7135IC for you

Have to admit I’m confused after the latest posts. This driver, that driver, buck, boost, CR123 cell not able to provide enuf juice, etc. I thought the 18350/16340 looked like a nice offering, and right at 500 lumens. 2 sets of modes, choice of tint … is this a decent light at the price, or not? Not sure if the website counter works but it has stopped at 2 orders?

anybody know anything?

In the photos, it looks like that the body is a little bit brownish-black and the tailcap isn’t - is that on every light?

18350/16340 version will work fine. It’s the same old S2+, just with smaller battery.

Thanks Alex for this. I have the S2, and like it. But the S2 I have puts out more than 500 lumens, more like 1000, no? Same emitter.

?

More like 800-850 (for U2 emitter and 8*7135 driver)

But different driver.
I would say it’s not reasonable to use more than 3 or 4 AMC7135 for 16340/18350 (unless you use IMR batteries).

I have a 16340 light with a 8*7135 driver - not a good idea, the light works only with 100% full cells and only for a short amount of time (maybe 5 minutes).

ANd that’s with the good SolarForce 880mAh cells.

What about a black version?
Or a S3 (new version) in this size

Or a M2 Version :face_with_monocle:

I don’t know… The S8 is my EDC - and it is still a very small light. Smaller than that would be not so good useable for me with my big hands.
I have the XTAR Meteor and Uniquefire UF-K21 and I like these, but they are so damn small…

Nice light , but can you change the name? 2 different light with the same name isn't the best option I think..

If you want to keep the S2+ at least add something at the end, like an extra letter or even a name/abbreviation.

The 16340 and 18650 Li Ion batteries run at 4.2vdc (3.7vdc nominal) which is ABOVE Vf LED so the 7135 linear regulator IC regulates that voltage down to drive the emitters…the CR123 is 3.0vdc BELOW the Vf…only way it will be able to drive the emitter w/ any intensity is to have a boost circuit that kicks the voltage up above the Vf of the LED…I don’t think the 7135’s are driven the by CR123 properly, Simon might want to look into that.

Since it’s a 1/2 size version, name them the Convoy S2.5 and Convoy S2.5+ Now differentiating between the 3.7vdc linear regulator driver and the 3.0 boost driver that might be Convoy S2.5b and Convoy S2.5b+ (to follow some sort of intelligent naming scheme) [but that’s just my opinion]

Either way I have the one listed above for the 18350…let’s hope it works out well  (It should…the Convoy S2 runs like a champ on a full size 18650, the 18350 will be a small form factor, the only issue I see is the 18350 batteries will have very short run times with 2A or more of drive current, the 4*7135 will be a compromise of size/run time with the smaller lower mAh 18350 batteries [still doesn’t mean a 8*7135 barn burner couldn’t be “modded”

What is the length of the 18350 light?

seeing as this is the same light as the s2+, why don’t you just sell the short body for the people who already have the 18650 version?

Hopefully the body available separately will come later. Simon has already said he plans to sell hosts.

sales are up to 3 already!

I’m definitely interested in a host version. Triple xpl or nichia pushed hard for a pocket rocket.

Other thing is…my full size S2 and S2+ fit perfectly in those single head band headlight deals…a 1/2 size will be even more compact

Anyone know if the S2 pill can fit in a S2+ body?
