SJ4000 LiIo batteries

Curious what the stock batteries weigh.

The original batteries that ship with an Authentic SJ4000 weigh 18 grams

This is what I ordered:

SJ6000

I didn’t see that it says the charger adapter is not included- does it charge via USB, so that any USB charging station should work?

Sir,
I do not mean to be the bearer of bad news, but the camera you purchased appears to be a clone. Not an authentic SJCam.
Authentic SJCameras will have “SJCAM” printed right on the front. Clones are not allowed to do that.

You must be very careful when shopping to ensure that you only buy the Authentic SJCAM. Many have had much lesser results with the cameras that were not Authentic SJCAMS.

As far as charging, the camera has a USB port on the side. All you need is a USB micro cable to charge the battery.

Let us know how your clone works out.

Good news on the charging, not so much on the source of the camera.

It will get more use once the weather here warms up, but I will see what I can do with it in the mean time (once it arrives.)

What would be a good source for the real SJCams?

Thanks for checking in!

You’re welcome

Any source that has the word “SJCAM” printed right on the front of the camera is usually fine.
GearBest and BangGood both probably sell the Authentic versions and the Clone versions.

I bought mine from B&HPhoto in New York. They were about $58.00 each IIRC

Thanks for the input!

I will check those sources out, and wait to see what I actually get.

I am also considering an accessory package that is supposed to be good for the SJ’s and GoPros- they seem to run $20-$30 for quite an assortment. Do you have any recommendation on those?

I got my SJcam SJ4000 2.0” from B&H Photo. Paid $67, but at least I know it’s authentic. I checked the scratch-off code on the box on their website and it checks out. The only thing I don’t like is the built in speaker. It doesn’t have enough volume even though I set it to maximum. Really doesn’t matter because it plays loud and clear on my computer. Video quality is excellent. So far I’m a happy camper.

Note that the camera pulls approximately 250mA when recording video if the screen is turned off during record.

First test with the expensive “Wasabi 1100mAh Premium Japanese” batteries……
IR = 202mΩ
From fully charged (4.14v) to fully discharged (3.1v) @ 200mA discharge current. 4hr 45minutes

Some checkpoints on the way….

Volts ……Capacity Used
4.14v……000mAh
4.00v……051mAh
3.85v……200mAh
3.80v……258mAh
3.60v……
3.50v……
3.37v……877mAh
3.30v……917mAh
3.20v……936mAh
3.13v……944mAh
3.10v……950mAh (test automatically completed)

So 950mAh is the actual capacity according to my test - 1100mAh is the claimed capacity on the battery.
But…it’s actually hard to find batteries that actually provide OEM capacity so these at least do that.

Since they at least seem to match the OEM capacity, I won’t be returning them, however, cheaper OEM batteries can be found that have the same capacity as these. These appear to be slick marketing of rebranded OEM batteries IMO.

Conclusion -
This is the 2nd so called high capacity SJ4000 set of batteries I tested this week. Neither came close to their claimed capacity.
Don’t waste your money on so called High Capacity SJ4000 batteries. Unless someone else has actually bought some and tested the capacity, the best you can probably get is 900mAh OEM batteries. The rest is probably just money making smoke and mirrors….as mentioned above already by flydiver

Post a link to the package you have in mind……

Here are a couple on Amazon, but I know Gearbest has some, and probably Banggood and others.

I looked at the kits you linked.

Your camera didn’t include any hardware or attaching pieces?

If it were me, I would wait until I receive the camera, see what you’re going to use it for and how. I can’t speak for the camera you ordered, but all the cameras I ordered already came with a very good assortment of attaching hardware. There’s quite a bit included….(again, I don’t know about the camera you ordered) Individual pieces are readily available on ebay very cheap.

The camera arrived yesterday. It came with a clip, a USB cable, and a holder (?) that has two threaded spots, top and bottom. So, minimal. But, for $25… as far as use, activities with the kids, and possibly trying snorkeling with it someday.

My genuine SJ4000 came with a load of different mounts & accessories, a double & single cell charger & 3 cells.
I just checked what I paid for it & it was £30 which is about $37 dollars at to todays exchange rates :+1:

Ian, where did you order yours? I do want to try this one out, but would need more ways to attach it, I think.
