The only spider that is not totally harmless in France is the black window that is found in the very south (provence, etc) but the brown recluse has also been reported since the early 2000s in the same regions.

No such spiders where i live, i regularly get bitten by tegenaires in my sleep they are everywhere here and i leave them alone, it will scratch for a few days, i consider it desensitisation for when the spider decide to wipe the humans for being squashed constantly.

Yeah, I kinda know when I get spiderbites, when I get pairs of Mystery Scabs (like twin pinpricks), but the scab is almost spherical (ie, deep into the skin, not just on the surface), and doesn’t heal for weeks.

Nasty little buggers.

Well, it was

I’m passing this along from a friend who has been an exterminator since before I was born.

The problem with most spider bites isn’t the venom…what do you do 2-3 times a day that a spider never does?

 brush your teeth

He says most of the time it’s the bacteria not the venom. I still catch and release after “bitey” encounters with a black widow and a brown recluse. Unless I know it’s one of those he/she gets escorted to the door if they cooperate and the wife and daughter aren’t screaming too loudly.

Sounds like some people have some stories. If my wife sees one I have to go kill it. I kill them sometimes. But like others I’ll tolerate a small wolf spider or two. Mosquito’s get indoors going in and out at night. But any big ones have to go. She will have a heart attack. Knock on wood no black/brown widows/recluses have been in my house even know they are rampant in my area. We have high populations of all three in the deep south. And being with 15-50 miles of three major us&southern ports. Sometimes we get some bad ones from overseas that are found. Or doctors trying to figure what species bit someone. But if I see any they will die. About 2x a year I spray all the door cracks, under siinks and window seals with that 12 month poison stuff. It says on the bottle spiders and fire ants must be sprayed directly. But will kill anything else that walks across it. Works fairly well.

That de looks interesting. I like how the poison is clear though and premixed in a spray bottle a $20 gallon has lasted like 3 years.

Yes, I agree. One shouldn't putt torch to car if they have any doubts and don't know what they are doing. I feel the same about squeezing under the car and spraying poisons up into the sheltered spot that is protecting the spider at highway speeds. Secondly, I don't have time to some how spray up into a car hoping I get the bugger in its hiding place and then wait for the fumes to clear for me to get back under there. Then touch all the coated surfaces and expose myself to the whatever nerve agents or whatever is in those sprays. So making sure I smell no gasoline fumes, have adequate air movement, and then be careful about the time the flame spends on the surfaces in the area is my way of quickly being able to get back to work.

What's the deal with the "French" comments?

we get occasional black widows and brown recluse here.
those get the carb cleaner, brakleen, or the zap racquet.
everything else gets left alone.unless they are spinning webs indoors and making a mess.those get vacuumed.
i get 2-3 big wolf spiders indoors every winter.i leave them alone and they get the fruit flies that come in with produce.
they get huge but are harmless.
as for infesting vehicles about all i have problems with are wasps.
they love the mirror housings on one of my cars and will build in the underbody of the van.
had a nest 8” across under it a few years ago.
and this van got used every day.they seem to have no problem with the house moving every day and hitting 80+mph!

might want to invest in a cheap endoscope, to see inside hvac ducts in your car, to see if you got any infestation in air handler\heatercore\evap.

demon wp

you might be surprised what you find.
i recently thought i had a bad blower motor in my dd.
ordered a replacement and when i pulled it out to replace it found a wasp nest in the wheel.
threw it off balance.
i have found dead mice the same way with added smell.
at least wasps dont stink when they die.

Australia Geographic Magazine had an article about the dangerous stuff there, such as the Red Spiders and the Drop Bears, although it reported that statistically, the results suggest that people born in Australia are significantly less likely to be attacked by drop bears.

funny but its blush spiders.
those and the drop bear joke have been around forever.

Yeah, found one of those fuzzy critters in my ductwork…

On top of that, both of these deadly creatures are attracted to light which is why headlamps are completely useless

Get yourself a bottle of Cynoff EC (with cypermethrin). Very safe effective insecticide. Not cheap, but concentrated. 1 oz to 1 gallon water.

When I was in college many years ago, I had to write a paper about some fictitious contagious disease and I suggested, "Nuke the entire site from orbit--it's the only way to be sure."

I was told by the TA not to make pop culture references in my paper, but I stand by my answer to this very day.
