uk edc knife

Thanks tally Ho, I’d seen the boker cox before, but the store that had it listed was out of stock :~ I’ll have a look see.

Ah! hard to tell with those pictures being so small.

Looks like a cherokee with the front diff on the opposite side of the axle.

Where was that picture taken? Looks like a fun area

That’s nelson, in Burnley, England. It was a fun place, but its a working quarry and part time offroad pay and play site. Now its entirely quarry, that was the rock crawl area and first real test of the sj after I “played” with the suspension.

That is because concealled carry of a firearm requires the person to undergo classes, testing, tons of paperwork, and rigorous background checks. Therefore the mental aptitude, ability, responsibility (for the most part)and the purpose one has for carying is known by the authorities who then declare that law-abiding person capable of making a life or death decision with good judgement in order to save lives .

With a knife however, any Tom, Dick, and Jane can stick one in their pocket and carry on with life (no applications or paperwork or licensing required)

IMO being restricted to size and type of knife allowable to cary is preferred over having to get a license to cary a knife! (as that would most likely be the alternative)

man that Suzuki is cool! nice suspension setup, tons of travel and good flex judging by the pictures!

I actually edc the Byrd Tern in your first post, I like the belt clip that allows it to sit inconspicuously on the inside of my jeans.
I also like the fact that there are finger grips on the blade, which means that you’re not in danger of it folding back on your fingers.

Paid about £15 for mine, for £30 I’d pay a bit more and get a Spyderco.

Gords - have you looked into the slipit line from spyderco?

edit - I am stupid…

Just get the H03 from Exduct, it’s cheap as chips, decent quality and you can enter the BLF giveaway. It’s totally legal and is a great bottle opener. It is limited in size but unless you have good reason it’s the best budget blade I’ve found. If you win the Exduct raffle get a ganzo multi-tool, several of them have non-locking blades too.

The spyderco is hard to beat, having more of a look round, some sites seem to suggest the Byrd range is associated with spyderco….nice to hear from someone who has the byrd, thanks.

Tactical, that was my first offroader, and first build. Glad you like it, it works well, was pretty cheap and very good fun to build. I now have a family of five, so a two seater van is pretty useless, but I’ve bought a landcruiser that rocks. Bigger, more comfy, scares the crap out of other road users.

take it from spyderco themselves, byrd is associated

There are loads of UK EDC knifes to pick from, just depends how deep your pockets are and the type of knife you would like.

How about one of these Japanese Folding Knife as found here

or a small modern EDC?

Subcom 42, spyderco squeak, nano 42

Or maybe something more for a gent, a Russell White slipjoint in ironwood, made in sheffield

SAK Alox farmer?

Hope that helps.

Thanks jeansy, that’s £7.62 spent, no real loss and it’ll give me an idea how happy I am with the idea.

SRM H03 received today.
gords1001, you’re going to be happy with it. SRM usual finish quality, very sharp probably due to a bezel cutting edge with a more acute / thight angle than usual.
Stiff to open but it is a slip joint. Stiff = security. You can’t open it with the thumb of the hand that holds it, to stiif for the tiny size. But if you open it to about 25% with the other hand, then it is possible to open it completely with the thumb.

There is a small tube to join the hole in both sides for a lanyard. I like this attention to details…but this tube is moving a little bit on mine. Will fix this epoxy or glue on one side.

Nice one tally ho, I just need my edc18650 to turn up and three claws and I can make up my edc lanyard 8)

For something different, maybe an higonokami that you could probably find on UK online shops and cheaper than buying it directly to Japan (if it is possible for UK citizens).

http://straightrazorplace.com/finer-things-life/47283-higonokami-traditional-japanese-pocket-knife.html

Online shop in Europe (Netherlands):

Wow, nice ones… ordered 90mm long

Another “cheap” alternative to the higonokami is the French Douk-Douk knives, that could be “customised”.

The higonokami or douk-douk handles are “wavy”: place a metal plate in the center of the handle, 2 plates of cheap wood to protect the outside and press / squeeze this in a vise to flatten the handle.
Then you can epoxy 2 pieces of nice wood and work the handle for example like this (douk douk “higonokamised”):

Mine arrived today, absolutely no flaws what so ever, sharp as hell, I’m testing it out tonight, I can’t even feel it in my pocket amongst my change, mine is stiff, but I can open it one handed. I’m a very happy bunny.

Now, my next knife……

kukri ??

Probably a ganzo g706/9 tbh, I love the finger hole design. No rush though, this little srm is perfect for its intended purpose. 8)
