The best C8 would be equipped with an old stock S4/a lucky picked S2 emitter running at 4.7 amps( fresh start), A17DD fed driver ( not Fet+1), 3 modes plus a bat check a VTC5A battery ofc and a nice IOS 42mm glass plus a black emitter bracket: if set properly this setup would give you approx 1300-1350 lumens and about 195k, even 200 k cds
Several days ago i have discovered even better 41.5 reflectors that original convoy ones…yet more tests and more reflectors( from those) are needed

Thanks again to MRsDNF , he knows why, the best australlian guy here! Definately, hehe
I’m not sure exactly why one driver is better than the other but I believe the Fet+1 driver will have a lower low. They are both DD on high.
Mitko is a noted modder of lights here and probably modded more lights than half of us put together. I’m not arguing with him. Besides I heard he was a bit of a nutter.
I ordered my parts today for my C8 Ultrafire upgrade today. I thought I would post the list and links here thinking that others might find them useful.
I wanted to revisit this post as the majority of my parts have come in. I am still waiting for the switch and the AR glass but that wasn’t going to stop me from working with what I have.
The LED spacer fits the XPG and the original reflector. It doesn’t fit the the aluminum reflector as the LED hole in the reflector is much to large. So be aware if you are using my parts list.
As others have said, beware of the reflector shorting out the LED MCPCB. When I first put mine together I had continuity from the positive spring to the flashlight case and I knew exactly what was wrong. As soon as I taped the connections it was fine.
I ended up ordering two XPG2’s; one Dedomed one not. That way I can compare them and I will give one away and keep the other.
The standard XPG2 (not Dedomed) is a nice performance up grade. Very noticeable upgrade in light.
I bypasses the switch spring that came with the light. I am sure that the better switch will provide better conduction. I will bypass that one has well.
Damn these parts are small. I need to order a good set of helping hands.
I need to drink less coffee.
Thanks to all of the members here for your comments and suggestions.
The total cost as built is $24.69. I didn’t include the reflector as I reused the one in the C8. I had Mountain add the front spring and bypass ($1.50) I bypassed the tail cap spring myself.
You also need some thermal paste for under the LED board. I also put thermal paste in the threads of the pill.
I bought two XP-G2 LEDs Mounted on the Noctigon boards; one Dedomed. My intention is to build two lights and compare them as I want to see the difference. The one I keep I a, going to modify for a lighted tail switch.
This doesn’t include the host. I won my host (actually it was an XML flashlight) in one of the many contests that GearBest runs here and on CPF.
It took me about 20-30 minutes but that isn’t a good gauge because I have a lot of electronics and soldering experience.
Bob/HH , It looks like you spent a nice amount of $ for your C8 ,being that you won the host
and you also have knowledge for electronics and soldering. Do you have a idea of the amount
of lumens it’s putting out ? Thanks for letting us know your goings on with your C8 builds.
I am new to the flashlight scene. I also putter with bringing old radios (1930’s) back to life during the winter months. I enjoy the tinkering.
I have no way to measure lumens with any accuracy so anything I would say would only be subjective. I expect that I will pick up a little more when I put a better switch in it. Still waiting on that.
I really like Toykeepers firmware and mode spacing on the driver. I have the same driver in my Manker E-14. The moonlight mode is perfect.
I will post some beam shots when I get a chance.
I plan on doing some Convoy S2+ triples for family and friends as well.
I tried to take some beam shots with my cell phone and all I could capture was a black screen. I can tell you that I can clearly make out medium sized tree trunks at 216 yards. They yardage was verified by my rangefinder so I know that it is accurate.
It is my understanding that the Dedomed XP-G2 will give me a tighter beam and more throw. I am thinking of putting it in an Eagle Eye X3 host.
