Zooming Model List (2018 Updated) Tell us about your newest zoomie!

Interesting…

I would need smaller model with 25.4mm body (1x18650 bat only) and glass aspherical lenses (around 20 mm).

Alonefire? For the first time I’m seeing Haikelite under a different brand.

I just got in this zoomie from Ali, base model of the XHP50 version.

For $10, I didn't expect much, so it met expectations, but still some interesting things:

  • very moddable - easily comes apart: driver retaining ring, uses the technique of long LED wires so they can twist around when threading in the pill, etc.
  • lower qual threads, finish, plastic lens - looks good though, no grease on threads, etc.
  • on a good cell measures about 1700 lumens at turn on -- not bad actually for stock as-is
  • uses a fake/clone XHP50 LED that runs at 3V - confirmed this from testing, and tracing thru the driver, CW but tint in this zoomie is not bad. Classic quad LED display when fully zoomed out for max throw
  • separate USB charging board - well, it's mounted to the driver, but looks like a driver replacement can be done with retaining the USB charging
  • classic klunky 5 mode UI: hi-med-lo-strobe-SOS, then OFF - must cycle thru modes to turn it off, always starts on hi
  • tail lockout from one little twist

Interesting driver design, just 2 small FETs, no resistors in the path, skinny long LED wires (24 AWG), normal gold plated springs.

Yeah weird. Since the HT08 apparently wasn’t received that well and sells for pretty much the same price, it must be overstock they sold off.
Exactly the same UI too, doesn’t look like a cheap copy.

Wellp, 18bux for the real Haikelite at FT…

Looks… interesting, but really not interested in the fresnel lens. They’re quite lossy compared to aspherics, and zoomies are already pretty lousy lossy to begin with when zoomed.

Will stick with my Cometa…

Has anyone seen this before?

Forget about the description (50000 lumens) and the UI ( :person_facepalming: ), but being a zoomie with XHP70.2 and eventually a push-pull (not sure of this), it would be interesting.
Getting a driver with a good UI would turn it into a nice light …

I think Tom E modded one of these but don’t quote me on it

I got in the XHP50 version in that listing. It's apparently a 3V XHP50 clone, I'm figuring.

Stock got ~1700 lumens at turn on, 26 kcd, classic CN 5 mode (ugh)

Mods:

  • swapped LED wires from 24 AWG to 20 AWG
  • spring bypasses on driver and tail
  • liberal use of Nyogel
  • On a Vapcell 5900, got 8.3 amps, 2502-2210 (Tom E lumens), 37.5 kcd (387m)

Moddable with driver piggyback in there? Maybe...

Definite fake LED, but it can crank out some lumens (not 6V though):

Chinese (I suppose: cheap) 5050 LED doing 2200+ lm in a real flashlight? Nice!

The first one, Varta, has a ramping mode. The other are fixed either one or several modes.

Have to focus the first 3 zoomies a bit, otherwise they won’t fit into 1 image. Especially the first and the third are huge.

for this model

Is there a way to get rid of the strobe/SOS modes?

Depends which light and how much you want to give up.

If you just want to get rid of blinkies but keep modes, LVP, etc., then you have to hacque into the µC’s firmware and reflash it.

For crap lights where I was okay with 1-mode, I just lobotomised the whole thing and bypassed the µC entirely (yeah, that means you, AT-01…).

On the Road Z821

On the Road Z803

I have contacted them for the ” On the Road Z821 light (the one with glass lens) and never got an answer… I need larger quantity and OEM service but it is hard to deal when they obviously don’t have costumer service :person_facepalming:

Nicron N81
Says it takes 1 AA or 1 18650  Weird…

Here’s the link anyway :

What came of this?

Last time I contacted OTR CS it took some days to get answers! I believe they are more focused on the chinese market, and in platforms like Taobao or Tmall!

Nothing…. I got no answer from them

So I am still in a search for small zoomie host with glass aspherical lens, 18650 cell only (1” tube), andodized threads, without redundant parts like usb charging port…

So far only OTR Z821 has all this qualities… Looks almost perfect… But manufacturer not available for communication. And they probably discontinued Z821…

Not sure if this fits your options regarding size, but it is the light I linked above:
