My kids have these small solar powered bugs like this. Those work fine in summer, but inside the house and wintertime offcourse they wont work.
Can you experts suggest some budget LED flashlight for powering those (close proximity is enough, so kids can "chase" those bugs)?
I just tested one bug, and if i lift it up to 20cm away from one 4Wat spotlight like this it starts to work, so if the promised 360 lumens is correct then 400 and over it should work ?
I'd like to help you out but I also don't want to recommend something and have you find out it doesn't work.
That said, the lumen output is probably not as important as the intensity of light hitting the panel - in other words, if the light from the lamp you showed was more focused it would probably work from farther away.
You could look in the AAA battery forum here (since you probably don't want lithium ion batteries since they're dangerous for children). A light that is 'zoomable' or a 'zoomie' and takes 3xAAA batteries would probably work, and there are lots of them available from $10 to $15 on this website www.dealextreme.com (warning, their shipping takes a few weeks...from china).
Personally, I'd just find bugs that take a battery - that same website probably has some.
