I must have a couple of dozens of flashlights for various battery types (mainly 18650-14500-AAA), but usually I prefer to buy AA/14500 FLs, because I find it very practical to be able to use it with an AA battery if my 14500s run out of juice.
What about you?
Do you choose your FLs according to the battery size they use?
Really depends on what light and it’s going to be used for.
Single cell lights for non edc stuff I prefer 26650 feel better In the hand than the smaller 18650 lights.
But for edc stuff are the smaller 18650 lights better, or even the smaller 14500 and 10180.
Depends on type of light. Multi quality 18650 cells from reputable manufacturers like Sanyo and Samsung for raw power. Single 26650 for compact power light. AA and AAA for small EDC lights.
It's lm/cd (for a good FL with good battery) can be more than enough for most of the cases we need it.
It's runtime can be long, but even if a 14500 battery runs out, it's easy to be replaced with a Ni or even a disposable AA battery that can be found everywhere.
AA for practical reasons(can use rechargeable NiMh’s, alkaline’s as well as 14500) as well as small size for EDC, 18650 for power and for winter EDC due to bigger size-weight combo.
When I choose to use a light it’s likely to be 18650 powered. But my most used light is the 10180 on my keychain. There’s no way to choose just one
