This is a light i would consider buying based on pricepoint. I really like lantern style lights over flashlights, the “flood” over a “throw” is way more useful for me. I wasnt able to find a good one, so I made one, intentionally rustic. I wrote up the sumary of it for another site, I wont “cross post” but the lessons learned I had were:
I couldnt find a good LED, everything needed something to defract the beam. But I didnt want a beam, so I sent with a G4 5W 580-Lumen 102 SMD DC 12V, this works great. I little more light output would be nice, but this is good.
I would have prefered something to hold up top, like a lantern, not like this coffee cup handle.
Having a beam that goes 360 around would be better than this, which is a little over 180 deg.
Its a 12v bulb, I am using unprotected laptop pulls, so I use the volt meter to watch their power and dont let it drop below 9v, that leaves them with enough juice to not over discharge.
Many hours of light. Two modes, on and off.
I will be building something to replace this, but if this BLF build first, I would buy that, again, depending on the pricepoint.
I’d be interested for one, possibly more depending on pricing. I’m all for a good (maybe perfect?) lantern… but this IS the budget light forum, so budget is key. That’s not to say I expect this lantern to be sold for 8.78 on GB! lol… no, that’s ridiculous. But I certainly don’t want to pay $60-$80 for it either.
I don’t know at the moment, as The Miller is busy working on the BLF Q8 and BLF Thrower lights at this time, ( he has more resources to reach out to manufacturers than i do.
For those desperate for a lantern, just make a wire cage that supports a soda cup, use the cup as a mold for t-shirt fabric saturated with epoxy resin(use a sleeve), then drop an inverted foil cone in the top.
So, I was wondering if this could be an add-on to the Q8, like a lantern adapter of sorts. It could be something the fits over the light to make it a lantern, sorry if this is not reasonable, I’m new here.
