Barry suggested some changes to the name & logo if possible as it is closely resembles the logo on the GT which was done by Lumintop ( a different factory than the Q8 and lantern projects.
I think we should see if the guy who made the logo (can’t recall his username) could make some revisions. I liked it most out of all the names that have been pitched.
If Barry and Sofirn want to be sensitive to another manufacturer, I think that’s okay. We don’t want to stir up trouble for no reason. Lumintop made the GT, so their brand is associated with it. Sometimes it’s better to back off a little and compromise rather than hurt your relationship. We do want these manufacturers to continue working with us, after all.
But, I think a reminder isn’t too out of place here. The BLF GT is “ours” not Lumintop’s. It was a BLF design before we even had a manufacturer on board to make it. The name and logo therefore are “ours” as well. It was designed here along with several others, and there was a poll to choose which one would go on the light. So, we’re really not outside of our rights using it if that is what people decide they want to go with. I guess the real consideration would be whether the BLF GT Team, or “Team Giggles” as they’ve called themselves, would be okay with this project using a similar logo.
For now it is the BLF lantern.
But there may be others coming in the future.
For this reason I consider this name to be too generic.
I somewhat like how Q8 name included some technical details. Maybe L8?
That is sad news, I really liked the BLF LT logo, which was also perfectly in line with the other BLF flashlight names. On the one hand I can understand that they don’t want it to sound to similar to a product of an other manufacturer, but on the other hand I would also say that BLF could be seen as a kind of brandname/ trademark itself.
If we can’t use BLF Lt I would support BLF lighthouse.
BLF Polaris with or without L1 as the model number?
BLF L1 Polaris
BLF Polaris L1
Think Polaris got mentioned in an earlier post but didn’t seem to be picked upon as a possible name? I think its quite fitting for an outdoor lantern, as the first star most look for outdoors at night is the North or Pole star.
