Nice idea to use a Yuji high-cri LED. I only have used a 100W COB LED from this store. I build a mobile High CRI Light for a girlfriend (professional Photographer that now lives on Bali).
I was absolut impressed! The pictures she took with the light look like they were taken under sunlight. But the price was not so nice. So to see a flashlight build with one of their Leds is interesting. To bad it puts out only ~10lumen.
But i noticed something. Many people want the light to be as robust as the Fenix E01. There is a lot of talking about the potting. And i think it will realy help to prevent loose coils, brocken and then shorting ceramic caps. . .
Now i see that Sofirn has plans to work on the reflector (i think it will help to get a better beam pattern with the 60 degrees leds). But we are potting the driver to prevent cables breacking loose and on the other Hand we remove a lot of stabilization around the LED. I do not know if it could effect the robustness of the light. But if you check the Picture i would say that the LED is now missing most of the material around it.
Just my two cents!
^ I like the hook for that light, and in other lights, but I’m not sure about the light of this thread. At least it looks like the costs of this solution is a bit higher than of a hole, because it involves an extra part.
But if there is some general support for the hook I can ask Sofirn if it is an option.
Same for a magnet hole instead of a trit hole, if some majority thinks it is a better feature I can ask for that (I will think of a hole size that fits one of the available magnet sizes: not too big but ample strong to hold the light).
Yes it does . That silver piece of wire at the tail can be freely moved from side to side, so when you hang it from something it hangs centrally. Have a look at a video of the Pineapple Mini, for example this one.
That is true, but the tail design of the A01 is not particularly brilliant. The flat area is very small so it doesn't tailstand very well and it has some slightly sharp edges, plus there is no place for a trit or a magnet.
I can get a poll/survey up later tonight regarding tail designs.
I’ve never been a fan of wires such as on the light that Huey posted, but my experience might be clouded by cheap lights that had them fall out or break. I prefer an easily replaceable split ring attachment point instead, personally.
The A01’s tail design is very large and poor at tailstanding, even if it is sturdy and can take a split ring.
I only suggested the Pineapple Mini tail design because it hangs centrally (which seems to be a wanted feature) and hadn't been mentioned before, but the reliability, ruggedness and replaceability is indeed a concern, coupled with the potentially higher cost it is probably best to skip that design.
Those CAD visualisations are nice. I’ll delightedly buy a light that looks just like that. The reversible clip for attaching the light to a baseball cap is an excellent plan - I’m always doing that with my 1×AAA lights :+1:
I’d buy the AA version of this too, if anyone ever made it - same LED and driver, but 3× runtime. Put the AAA light on a keyring, put the AA one in a backpack or a glove box. (I said that about the BLF-348 as well )
