This old EA41 has hosted my pukelight a while now but itās not actually very useful as a flashlight. Not wanting to take it apart and bulld the host into a more serviceable flashlight I just let it sit on the shelf for the last 4 years. Sentimental reasons I guess, itās the first one I built and I went through all the heatsink I had machined so I couldnāt ever make anotherā¦
Well I scribbled out a circuit drawing last night that I thought might work and sure enough it did! I now have 2 triple channel drivers and their very different from each other UIās working together! I got it to work by using the PL drivers 6x7135 channel for white as the Nx7135 channel on the TA driver, diodes keep the output signals from each MCU from reaching the other MCU pin and from conflicting should they accidentally get switched on at the same time. Conveniently PL can be controlled from a single button (it was originally 2 button since the EA41 has 2 buttons) so switch could be available for each driver and the anduril driver got control of the switch LED.
Even though it was a working light with a working driver I still built a fresh one because reasons.
Darn I forgot to take pictures of the cross-talk prevention diode placement, talk about surgery!
āPukelightā was a multi colored strobe / flashlight I built and marketed to LEO & security companies (they sold pretty well) back when I was doing flashlights professionally.
The concept is legit, randomized color and flash patterns of light help disorient. The military uses it, its so effective travel companies sometimes even use them for customers to find out if they get seasick before booking a cruise. Itās not actually designed to make you vomit or anything like that, just disorient.
As a handheld unit itās pretty much outdated tech now cause pocket size flashlights with 3000+ lumens exist and with that much shear power white light is just as effective at disorientingā¦
I think running on AAās was itās best selling point, I would include a couple sets of L91ās and I know a lot of guys were already running NiMH too so they didnāt have to deal with Li cells.
Note it is now my second NiMH powered anduril light!
We have a friend over there in Moffat that hasnāt been to visit in a while, maybe I could convince her to come and she could bring it with her. She might even be persuaded to bring some of that fantastic candy from the Moffat Toffee Shoppe.
My Mom and Lettie have been friends since 1943, Lettie worked at the toffee shop many many years. Lettie was originally from London, married a man from Moffat and they lived there all their married lives. Jim passed some years backā¦ My Mom and Dad have been there visiting and loved the country, Iāve always wanted to go but have never managed itā¦
Well, if you ever do visit, go between June - August, the only time thereās a chance of warm/ good weather but still likely to experience all the seasons in a single day
Thanks. Is there a āMareās Tail Lochā nearby, or something like that? My Dad has told stories of hiking up to it and some of the family/friends didnāt go because it was a long steep trail. Would like to see that and then some. But not on a cold dreary day.
Iām not familiar with the area though I did have a girl from Galashiels a few years ago which is fairly close, nice clear skies at night there, I never knew there were so many visible stars
Hereās loch Skeen and some of Mares tail walk.
Can you see the toffee shop?
I live somewhere between Arthurs seat & the castle in Edinburgh.
Beautiful valley! And the castle has an appeal all itās ownā¦ thanks for those. Now youāre going to have to build a Grey Mareās Tail light in honor of the moment. hahahahaha
