Hey all Y'all,
I have a mod that turned out to be one heck of a thrower and doesn't break the bank. Some of you might remember that I bought a couple of lights from Tractor Supply (Jobsmart brand). Well this is one of them. It is a 3AA light similar to the Saik.
It is all aluminum construction with a SMO plastic reflector and plastic lens.
I removed the original led and made a new heatsink out of Copper.
I put in an XM-L T4 (5,000k). It has two modes OFF & ON. No circuit board here. I'm going to continue to do DD lights for a while. Less to go wrong!
Uses NiMH or Alkaline batteries. For the shots I did tonight, I used Alkalines.
Edit: It comes with the 3AA holder. It's a stock Chinese 3AA holder. The resistance in the holder actually benefits this direct drive light, due to the low vf of the emitter, it helps tone things down a bit, especially with Alkalines.
Here's a couple of photos and of course, Beam shots to show how well it throws.
The paint is the gray textured that I have used before.
Here's a control shot, before I turned the light on.
The shot above shows just how bright this beam is. The one below really illuminates the tree, at about 40 yards. The difference is night and....... Day!
Again, a Control shot, across the pond.
The upper shot is across the pond, at 50+ yards.
The lower one is at the end of the pond, pushing 90+ yards.
The "white wall" shot. My garage door is as close as I get to a white wall. Distance is about 7 yards.
SOLD
Thanks for looking!
