Interested. If it has a tripod mount on the bottom like the regular LT1, it will go a long way toward solving tipping problems. I too would love a red led with a night light mode, but I’ll get one either way.
If it’s possible to put the mini lt on it’s head, there’s no need for a wider base. I wouldn’t make too much extras for a backpacking light. I most probably end up losing all that stuff in a dark forest anyway. Keep it simple, light and cheap but durable. If you want to pull in true hiking and backpacking people that should be the goal of this light.
But what do I know some of you might be backpacking with a mule.

This mini-LT1 would be really cool with the 2000K/3000K E21A LEDs given the smaller form factor. Tint ramp between candle light and halogen light. Have it cover the whole range of typically used lantern white light CCTs like candle light, acetylene light, propane light, and incandescent gas.
I will be doing a video soon on some custom built super micro lanterns, even one that can fit in your wallet, emit the same light or more of a candle 360 degrees , & run for 40+ hours.
I noticed you wrote “lanterns”…with an S.
any chance you would make something like a nitecore LR30 shape? I’m worried that these lanterns based on a flashlight host are too easy to knock over.
Most of the micro & mini lanterns i have built or modified are hanging type, but there are a few that stand on a table. ( but yes, some are of the low-profile style as the LR30, but most of them are modified existing lanterns i bought) some of these literally “tiny” , so once i can get the video done you will see what these are and their purpose.
u r leaving us hanging man!! I just got the LT1, my first BLF light. Now I know why y’all are so crazy about flashlights.

But if you’re carrying a tripod, then you losing the space savings from leaving the LT1 . might as well get a low profile or shorter lantern.
Since it’s upfiring, it would be nice if the diffuser were removable—like a screw on/off— so it could double as a flashlight as well as a lantern. Anyone else think that would be useful?

Cool idea. But why not E21A 2000K? Much better tint and color rendering.
