Yup, I’ve put LH351D’s in a few Tool AAs with great results. They make a nice combination.
The last emitter swap I did was in a tool ti AAA. Turned out pretty good. I then swapped one in the brass tool AAA and shaved the LH351D.
I liked the shaved version better, actually I haven’t found anything yet that shaving this led didn’t look better in. I also built a triple in a RRT-01 and used the KD triple optic with shaved LH351D’s, turned out very nice. Wasn’t as nice with a carclo, too floody and the KD optic seemed to make the tint more pleasent.
FWIW (and question),
I knew the Samsung from the TLF Wuben E05-I and found it to be ugly greenish.
Recently, I ordered a couple of 2700K and 5000K LH351D from Sofirn and today implanted one of the 5000K LEDs in a C8 (BLF A6 driver, OPR, Manker MCPCB). What a difference! Those 5000K Samsungs from Sofirn are mostly neutral.
Do they have multiple bins at this color temperature, are there production specific variations or was there an update? I’d like to order more to equip a BLF Q8 with them, but would like to ensure they are still of this quality.

Can’t read those diagrams. Means: If I get R1 or R2, I’m around BBL, right?
There has been some recent debate on led-tint, a lot of us begin to prefer neutrals over cool white, the BLF mini (that is still somewhere in the mail for me [image]) is too green for some, and during hurricane Sandy the people don't care less about tint of course, but I think it is awesome that the BLF-mini has had good use already under those circumstances!! So without knowing if anyone has written up anything similar, I thought let's share my thoughts on the tint-subject, without using (or b…
If you prefer pink over greenish, you need to stay under BBL.
Contactcr tested a few LH351D’s from Digikey here. LH351D 90CRI Spectrum Tests
Shaving the dome lowers the cct and gets them even closer to the bbl.
Does the Samsung LH351D fit optics made for XP-G2’s (in my case it’s a quad optic bike light) without any modding?
Thanks!

In most cases yes but the dome is larger on the 351D IIRC so it can have issues with some optics.
It will be MUCH floodier then an XP-G2 as well in the same optic.
Basically it is a case of try it and see how you like it.
Worse case, you could probably shave the dome off the LH351D. This will not only aid fitment if there is interference with the optic, but it will drop about 500K in CCT (5000K becomes 4500K), lowers DUV, and makes it less floody. You’d loose a few lumens though.
Thanks for the responses! I like the idea of plenty of flood, but I still need some throw.

From this test…“The dome started to burn around 5A…”
Has anyone tried this the LH351D with Convoy’s 6A driver?

Good to know!
Cheers!
I’ve two pieces of Convoy S2+ on the 12-mode 5A driver and Samsung LH351D 4000k LED. Both LEDs seem to have developed burn/black spots on the dome.
the lights themselves work fine and the black spots don’t affect the beam pattern. But this is the first time I’ve seen this happen.

That didn’t happened to my s2+ 5000k, but my batteries only provide 3.5A.
Are you sure that isn’t any dust?

It’s not dust. I’ve tried to clean it off with lighter fluid and cotton swab, but it’s still there.

That’s weird. It shouldn’t happen with less than 5A. Anyway you can slice the dome like I did

The S2+ with LH351D is 5A.

Yes, but it’s almost impossible to get 5A due to high vf of lh351d.
