I’m using the GE reveal hd+ led in my house…do these suck or something?
Bright White Light Bulbs
Reveal HD is a bulb which offers the best quality of light, filtering out dull yellow tones to provide clear, bright, white light.

sigh. Mass/weight has nothing to do with sustained heat dissipation. Surface area is all that matters once it’s up to operating temp. It seems to me they are transferring the heat out the metal threads to the metal and ceramic socket the bulb is threaded into. That adds needed surface area, and it is totally designed to take the heat.
Personally I don’t care if you have some imagined beef with this brand. But I do mind that every time I recommend them, you pop in to say I am recommending shit. You have repeatedly claim their are loads of reviewers that say they melt, yet when asked for proof, you are like, oh, they must have manipulated ALL the reviews. Geez. You have never owned one! I have been using them for years.
I’ve never got my hands on one, so idk. The reviews look fine. But they don’t tell their CRI rating, so that’s not a good start. Maybe BurningPlayd0h can give a psychic review.
90ish? What’s a good high cri bulb from Amazon and…will it matter between 90 and say, 98 cri?
I have the BR30 Reavel HD+ bulbs, they are of decent quality
Interesting, thanks. If you have the Duv reading, that would be interesting too.
That BR30 Reavel HD+ bulb looks remarkably like the Hyperikon A19: (Duv=–0.0009)
Here’s a Hyperikon BR30, but in 4000k because that’s all I have: (Duv=–0.0016)
I measured a half a dozen GE Reveal bulbs before and they usually have a DUV of –0.0035 or lower and R9 of at least 50. They have the best tint I’ve seen but they burn out the quickest. I’ve had so many died within days or weeks.
Thanks SKV89, I know you have been on quite the search for LED strip. I was wondering what bulb you like these days?
As a side note, I switched the title of the thread to Discussion so we can all throw positive suggestions into the ring.

Oof, way too tinted for my taste. But some people like maximum rosy tint.

Every E27/E14/etc. type bulb will do that, if it was sufficient for LEDs there would be no need for designing so much heatsinking into the units themselves as higher dollar units have. The fixture withstanding heat != offering heatsinking, heat is not the enemy for incandescent bulbs in the same way it is for LEDs.

I have posted the link to the Amazon reviews, and made no such claim of every review being manipulated. Quite the opposite, the reviews and images on the page I linked speak for themselves. I don’t plan to hold my tongue on what I’ve seen because others are irritated by it, I want you to be able to offer a great product here and will share my genuine opinion about the resources you are using to create it unless the rules of BLF or statement by an admin otherwise prohibit that. I would do (and have done) the same for flashlight brands where I have seen or experienced failures, bad QC, whatever the issue may be.

You know, in general I can see tint pretty well, but in this case it is actually quite pleasant. I believe it is due the fact that it is the dominant light source in the room by far. Kinda like how we do not see the sun’s tint.
There’s also the fact that there seems to be less perceivable tinting when it comes to lower temps, instead of green white purple it is yellow yellow orange.
I did the whole house in GE reveal HD+ and have lost 2 or 3 bulbs in as many years. No complaints about their life span from me.
I did GE Reveal HD+ at my bedroom. Everything is great except it flickers sometimes for whatever reasons (it was in a rented apartment) so I switched back to incandescent.
Any recommendations for bulbs for taking pictures of canvas paintings?
Sunlike for sure.
Any recommendations for bulbs for taking pictures of canvas paintings?
I would probably take the painting outdoors on a sunny day, face it mostly toward the sun, and put a white foam-board from the dollar store behind it to make photo editing easier. Then erase everything from the photo except the painting. Bingo, perfect lighting and an Amazon-like photo.

The Reveal is still my favorite due to the low duv. Whites appear whiter. However the R9 could improve a bit and GE could really improve their reliability. From my experience, it is the most unreliable LED light bulb I’ve used.
I knew you liked low duv, but I’m surprised you describe whites as whiter, instead of rosier. Using staticx57’s data for that bulb, the Reveal HD+ is further below the BBL line than anything I have ever seen on the consumer market.
That’s how GE advertises their Reveal line and I can confirm it is true. Negative DUV does make white appear whiter at warm CCT.
