Thanks lux I have 2 SFT-40 lights and I really like the emitter. But I’ve promised myself not to buy anymore 6500k lights, I’ve got to many which I bought before I got edumakated here on BLF of the finer details of flash appreciation.
Word on the street (Reddit - hanklight subforum, 3 weeks ago) Hank at Emisar is working on a new thrower. Larger than the KR1, smaller than the K1. 21700, side switch. He has said nothing else, BUT... when he shared photos of his workspace / workroom - there was a large (~40mm) TIR optic sitting on the side of the desk in the last picture... Kind've looked like the EA01 TIR.. Just saying.. He has NOT said it will be a TIR, but i dont think Hank was playing with an Astrolux that day and left the optic on the table for the picture... lol.
Interesting. I hope he’s going to focus on producing something that’s not a pocket hotrod but instead something that will manage heat well and provide a reasonably sustained high level output.
@ bcm00re- it defintely is not. It handles more amps, is brighter, has higher luminance, and is overall just a better thrower led in every way. It is definitely the version2.0 of the sst40. A dedomed sst40 will see an approximate 20-25% decrease in output and the same 20% increase in throw. The sft40 sees a increase in both output and throw, with throw exceeding far beyond a 20% gain over sst40.
for official bench test and awesomeness - see djozz's test here on BLF. For physical ( and mediocre photographed IMO) beam shots, rake a look at the tag in my signature line. And look at post #7 for the comparisons for color, abd you'll see why I'm so excited about a 5000k sft40. This led is almost perfect in my book (throws "like" a sbt90 but without all the heat, because it only needs 1/2 or less of the amps) but the one thing it's missing is a lower cct option.
Thanks for setting me straight you two! I guess I remembered the part where djozz said, “Luminus SFT40 is like the dedomed version of the SST40” but not all the rest.
We never stop to learn!
That’s why I’m so interested in a thrower with the sft 40, it might be quite effective for its output, making it last a couple of hours but still with good throw, and with this TIR, it seems the “bleed” gives quite a good light outside the focused beam.
haha, thanks for reading my rant! i apologize, i just have been very excited abut this LED since getting them in, i have put them in about 8-10 lights. It is just such a solid performer and exciting that it is 3volts, now with the word of 5000k, it really just completes the "line" for this LED. It will be really hard to beat this one once it has a 5000k options, except for the fact that it may be pretty hard to get. if the last 2 months have shown us anything with them only being in stock for a week or two.
Much more uncontrolled spill. So reflector only gives a beam and a circle outside the beam, the tir kind of gives a smooth diffusion from the beam and out to make a decent near light plus a decent thrower. In this case it seems. Tir can be made in many different options.
