Hi, Hank. I’ve ordered DW4 with 519 in May. Some days ago I noticed that my payment has been refunded. Is there something wrong with the shipment? What’s the reason?
I was just suggesting the DW4 with SST-20 660nm to a friend for darkroom use. I’m curious as to why the boost driver can’t be used with those emitters. Vf too low?
Impressions so far: SST-20 DR are extremely red (duh, I know, it’s my first time though).
A pleasant surprise is the boost driver’s moonlight (1/150), it’s wavering and fluctuating a bit but overall it gets much lower down than the dual channel linear, almost comparable to PL47G2, the queen of moonlight (out of my collection at least).
Headband feels nice, turns out it actually works better for me with the easily removable top strap off. The neverending plight of us planet-headed.
Tailcap magnet is hecka strong, the DW4 can hold itself horizontal on a round steel horizontal pipe (wow!).
Looks like KR4 clip will work though to make proper contact when installed between tube and head, solder blob or a ring of wire would need to be added onto the driver PCB, same with the tail end, or, more likely, I’ll 3D print a spacer to fit between tail PCB and the cap. Of note is that the KR4 clip will kill tailstanding.
Speaking of tailstanding- there is no flat spot opposite the optics so the DW4 will roll and not remain pointing up on its own.
The head does not protrude forwards, turns out protruding head is useful in preventing fingers from partially obstructing the optics when handheld, thumb-on-button style.
Overall the lights are beautifully built but that’s the standard.
It does work actually, only that the moon mode is just too bright, almost like medium mode, so, you can only ramp from medium to high mode, other than that, it works fine, I assume it’s because of the low VF.
One resistor needs to be changed for the output voltage to swing across the lower voltage range of red LEDs. The current range is about 8.5V to 14.5V (simulated with the resistor values), fine for white LEDs but doesn’t go low enough for red LEDs.
I talked about it in several comments in this Reddit thread
Yes, the body tube and magnetic tailcap are the same as D4V2, DW4.
The design has changed a bit, including the threaded retaining ring just like DW4.
Yes. it will have the same emitter options as KR1.
The lighted switch options are standard, alone with the SS bezel.
