Do you have to use protected cells with this light? I have king kongs, IMR’s and INR 26650 batteries…will any of these safely work? I ordered this light thinking I could use one of these pairs of batteries!
I bought and just received one of these ROCHE F22’s with the optional extension tube. Like the OP, I immediately noticed that the second plastic sleeve (for using the 18650 calls) was absent. I contacted cnqualitygoods.com and was told that a second sleeve is NOT included. This is deeply disturbing…
No indications when ordering that a second sleeve isn’t included, even when purchasing the 2-battery extension.
No mention from customer service during our 3 email exchange, that I may purchase one.
Just “sorry, the second sleeve isn’t included”.
So now I’m forced to fabricate a sleeve just to use 2 cells.
Bottom line, cnqualitygoods.com won’t be seeing my funds in the future… that’s for sure.
Welcome to BLF Johnson! You'll love being here! There must have been some kind of miscommunication. Ric is usually very friendly and helpful. The second sleeve can be ordered separately for $1.5.
I just received the optional flat bezel ($5) and I think the light looks much better with it. This is of course a matter of taste..
As speculated before, the second extension tube allows usage of 4 x C cells. I don't have any NiMH Cs, but the light seemed to work also with alkalines, starting with 0.6A and quickly sagging to steady 0.5A (at TC).
TF protected cells seem to fit also in 2 x 26650 configuration, but are on the limit. Anything longer might have problems with tailcap locking out.
It took me 3 emails to (politely) relay my concerns - only to arrive at being forced to pursue different options… for a problem that should have NEVER existed to begin with. Why no second sleeve when the optional extension tube is clearly specified during ordering?… and it’s not even listed in the ‘options’ on the product page. Worse yet, no resolution even offered, let alone, NOT being informed that ‘apparently’ I had the opportunity to purchase one… and have it shipped when the initial order was made.
Here’s the last of 3 email communications (please note: to get the second sleeve, they attempt to bait me into a second order - The way I see it, it’s like buying a car, only to discover long AFTER you take delivery, that spare tire is not included…. . Sorry, they lost a future customer over a measly buck-fifty piece of plastic.|():

They know who I am, my concerns, and my shipping address. The solution is in their court.
Why censor our use of the term tacticool?
We should declare a day in September to be tacticool day, on this day we discuss all things tacticool and showcase the best and worse examples
They work fine in mine, but the length is "on the limit" (= tight) => manufacturing tolerances may cause them to be just too long causing tailcap lock out.
Short update: Bought 4 x NiMH C and noticed that 4C configuration with NiMHs is not good, since based on the voltage the light thinks its using 2x26650 and triggers the higher low voltage warning too soon.
=> Recommended configurations are:
- 3 x SubC with one extension tube
- 3 x C + dummy C with two extension tubes
Ps. I need to add that the new flat bezel felt really good in my jacket pocket. No worries about it ripping the pocket or anything. :) [The crenelated bezel has quite sharp edges!]
