the 980l drives the xml at 4.6a on certain low resistance cells I have..others it's 3.8a and so on..I use the higher resistance cells to lower the amperage draw for led longevity..you can't drive this led any harder without hurting it so the 980l is as bright as the xmls can get..someone correct me if i'm wrong?
here's a crappy phone pic to show you the beam profile of the 980l..this is on medium (1.2a) i'll have a review this weekend when i'm not working..
From 3,5A - 4A it´s not really brighter and over 4A it´s only hotter.
(my Brinyte C5 drives 5,14A with full charged 18650, little bit too much)
edit: ah, the 980l and my Brinyte maybe have the same driver. the driver of 980l look´s like the ultrafire xml-dropin driver.....and this driver is now in my Brinyte.
Thanks Andi and Pounder for all the usefull information. Now I see there is a cree xml u2 1300 lm at KD. Not much info on it I am assuming it isn't a thrower either?
...besides, the Brinyte D8 is the successor of the Brinyte C5, reflector has same deep, but it´s little bit wider. (little bit more spill and little bit less throw)
I'll be suprised if they send it. They had flashlights for $0.00 so I had to add them to my cart. I have no knowledge of these lights. apparently they are expensive.
Thanks! Andi. I don't like BOOM boom sucks!!! I have seen that light before but it was more than I wanted to spend $45-$70. I am going to try to order a Brinyte XML C-5 again. This time I am not going to add any free flashlights to my cart.
