got mine today, I like it, I also like that the driver would fire up and give all three modes on an aaa I had in my van, the two spare drivers will be going in aa hosts with xp-g2’s for my two boys (age 1 and 2 lol) I shall probably badger rey for more drivers as well as I know of few primary/lithium capable drivers.
This light will be my dress edc so wont see too much use but will be nice to go with my dress pocket knife. 8)
I also now need to build another 16340 light as I dont like spare cells lying about….
It is neither lighter nor smaller than the Mini-01 to my surprise. At the time I got the 02, my 01 was attached to my car keys which were with the mechanic doing the annual roadworthiness test (MoT in the UK).
My Mini-01 (no cell) weighs 41.7g, the Mini-02 47.4g. The Mini-02 is about 4mm longer, but a hair less in head diameter. I can't find my calipers to measure how much smaller. Quick lightbox numbers on an IMR 16340 and the CR123 primary that came with the Mini-01.
Mini-01 (used) CR123. Mine is the high/low/strobe version
Low 69 lux 12lm
High 812 lux 146lm
TLF Mini-02 (used) CR123 - same cell as above. It is a neutral white version. Beamshots etc will have to wait till it gets dark.
Low 19 lux 3lm
Med 152 lux 27lm
High 671 lux 120lm
Mini-01 (Not fully charged) IMR 16340
Low 153 lux 27lm
High 1389 lux 249lm
Mini-02 (Not fully charged) IMR 16340 - same cell as above
Low 30 5lm
Med 372 67lm
High 1130 203lm
These aren't exactly lab-grade results but are indicative.
I’m pleased with mine, mode choice with a twisty will take some getting used too but a little grease has helped, the tint is nice and pwm is acceptably high. It also looks classy so will suit my intended purpose, I just wish, as I do about the blf a8 driver that I had ordered ten or so drivers, they would have made an excellent basis for some Christmas gifts, I hope rey has more available.
ok… my 16340 is charged up (measured 4.18V)… popped it in… turn the light on… low … good… med… good… high… a brief flash, then it shuts off… while screwed down/engaged….
whats going here? the light can’t handle the 16340 on high??!
I did take the light a part to clean and grease the threads while I was waiting for the battery to charge… The only mode that does not work is high…. If it was a contact issue wouldn’t I have issues with the other modes as well?
OK…thanks! So to clarify, this is an issue with the batteries and not the driver? Would the fix to be remove the protection circuit? Are the batteries bad?
this is an issue with the batteries and not the driver!!! I´ve tested with some batteries.
to remove the protection circuit will solve the problem.
The batteries are good, but the protection circuit is too sensitive, and that is bad!
Thanks for the clarification… so it is most likely i got a ‘bad’ batch of batteries with overly-sensitive protection boards….?
I’m not sure if I’m prepared to deal with non-protected batteries as I am still a newb when it comes to li-ions… crap… another suggestions for new batteries?
I got mine yesterday. It looks fine, no visible flaws and I grabbed the 2xTF’s with it, both read within 3.86-.87v. NW seems to be a good tint, noticeable next to my 60w warm cree bulb and U2 XML.
It does not want to switch modes if I do it slowly however when an more abrupt, rapid moment is used it is not generally an issue. High pwm, though slightly noticeable. I still have to charge them though, so I’ll report back if that changes the switching function.
