HD2010 Direct Drive Conversion w/ East-092B Driver

Just completed a very simple conversion from the terrible 1amp East-092B to direct drive. It is very simple.

1) Strip light
2) Cut the circuit board ends of the wires going to LED
3) Remove circuit board
4) Used nippers to remove all circuit boards/resistors from driver. Goal was to sever all modes and the failed 1amp current path.
5) Opened up pre existing hole in center(ish) of board to 1/32”. The hole ends up in the spring on the opposite side.
6) Opened up one of the edge holes to 1/32”, this notched the side of the board for wire clearance
7) Feed + white wire through center hole and solder to spring
8) Feed - black wire through side notch and solder to circuit board outer ring
9) Reassemble

Pulls 4.1 amps on TF 5,000mah protected batteries. Very bright. I intentionally reused the stock small led supply wires to limit current. Replacing them with larger would probably dump too much and fry the led. Basically 2 simple solders and you have a 1 mode Direct Drive light. When using my 2010 I don’t seem to care about med or low.

Crude? YES but bright and no blinky modes, only HIGH. Perfect. Only downside is that it isn’t dark yet!

**interesting. I haven’t bought the 2010 because of the poor performance lately. but if I did have one of those I might try this . but why not just change the driver?

This is free and takes 10 minutes. Not sure how most use their 2010’s but I grab mine when I’m looking for HIGH. The Keygos M10 and C8’s are usually for other uses.

Plus, it seems like people have some type of issue with nearly every driver. So many random ones floating around. Lots of 2.8amp 8x but I wanted a little more without soldering in more chips with my terrible soldering iron.

Thanks for the info, I night give this a try as I also have the crappy 1amp version and no-one seems to be able to supply the “good” driver anymore.
A couple of questions - How hot does the HD2010 get?

  • Given that this conversion was done a while ago now, is the light still runing fine or have you come across any problems with it?
