As much as I dislike Walmart there are certain items I need to purchase there like oil change kits they carry factory Ford and Mopar filters. The local Walmart has racks of 6 volt floating lanterns for $3.46 with the big 6 volt battery included with a claimed 110 lumens. These look like they have some serious mod potential. I have walked by them twice but ideas for different mods keep running through my head so I am going back to pick a couple up. I do not see them on line so I will post some pics when I get them.
Edit: They look just like these but not Eveready brand and claimed 110lumen not 25.
I was thinking three XML P 60 drop ins with Nanjg drivers that will handle the 6 volts wired to a relay mounted on a piece of sheet metal running off that giant battery. I didn't want to ruin the surprise, but why not.
They're big, but with "heavy duty" chemistry, so not really all that much. They're 4 F (like D but longer) cells inside. Even in alkaline, a D cell runs out really fast >1A.
I was thinking in modding that light that you toss everything but the case and the reflector. Figure out how to get a nice XM-L centered in that giant reflector, and drive it with an 18650. Maybe take an Ultrafire light, get rid of the head on it, and just use the tube and switch. I don't see anything worthwhile in those lights except the reflector.
I wonder if I could fit 5 XML P-60 drop ins in there mounted to a piece of sheet metal in place of the reflector with 5 18650 cells one for each drop in, if not 3 would definitely fit but man 5 would be 3500 lumens.
