Opinions..... impressions... What do you think? Anybody has tried it? Other sites claims 50 lumens measured with integrating sphere.... but..... 50 lumens with Alkalines or 10440?
XP-C Led.....
Can compare its power with, for example, Black Cat? or F23?
I imagine that XP-C led will throw farther than XP-E.
It seems like the XP-C should throw further because it is smaller. But I think the brightness of the die will be about the same as an XP-E, the XP-E will just put out more light overall since it has more area. So the XP-C might have a smaller hotspot, but the intensity of the hotspot will be the same as the larger XP-E. Also, for whatever reason, Cree says you can't drive the XP-C as hard as an XP-E. For me, I wouldn't buy a light with an XP-C. But if you wanted longer runtime, maybe it would be a good choice. If I want longer runtime, I'd rather just use a lower mode.
Or the beam colour in the DX picture - I know that tints vary but surely they could have got a better one to photograph.
I'd put up with the engraving if it weren't for the beam colour. But the Tank007 TK-703 looks like a better light to me but it does cost a dollar more.
That TANK007 TK-703 looks really nice. I'm looking to buy a few more AAA lights because I have way too many AAA batteries and too many AA lights. Any other suggestions?
Well, obviously the Fenix E01. I like the Akoray K-103 and the Trustfire F23 though it is a big light by AAA standards. Beyond that, the only other one I have is a Preon from 4Sevens but it isn't all that budget.
I actually bought the Preon kit which is not now available which came with a Preon 1 body and a twisty tailcap as well. Review here
Those are pretty much the only ones that I have direct experience of - I've still got a Mag Solitaire somewhere - whatever you pay for one of these is too much. With an LED mod which costs about 3x as much as the light it becomes a marginally useful dim thing. You can grind down a 5mm LED to fit and arrange something like an A23 12V battery and resistor with a bit of dowel to make it all stay in place. Not worth the effort though.
Thanks Don. These are the AAA's I have so far: ITP A3(1st keychain), Fenix E01(2nd keychain), TrustFire XP-EF23(still looking for this one). I like the Preon but I'm looking for a budget light and the ones I'm looking at right now are the Tank TK-703, Akoray K-103 (but this looks too much like my TrustFire F20 and it's twin the Akoray K-106) and the RMSEN RV-107. I'm going to continue to look at as many as I can and maybe by next week, I'll buy 2 or 3 AAA lights. One other thing I prefer in a light is for it to be a clicky and not a twisty and I think AAA lights are more twisty than clicky......I think.
