So this should be XM L2 U2 1A driven at 7A. Normally by de doming it should have nice upper neutral white color(some says ugly greenish but I don't notice that in fields, in fact I see better than with cool white) and with this de dome method it remains cool white even cooler than original. Very interesting...
It looks like 400-500KCD light to me because by judging my aspheric(500KCD) at same distance mine would look more hotspot intense but this is of course bigger hotspot size. Can't judge the picture.
He could use some kind of fluid on phosphor... Maybe there are some fluids that phosphor absorbs without any harm to layer.
Hey! Who dares to post pictures of MY light?
The only one in existance that I know of?
LOL
Seriously: I do own the light pictured above and it is a special custom aespheric build by the German Custom Light Builden known as “Vinz”.
As far as I know it’s a one of, at least for the civil market…….(it was designed for Special Forces, Police etc).
Vinz builds some fabulous lights. Have seen some of his work before but those two are spectacular. Both probably way out of what I want to spend on one light.
Great work!! Really, it looks good to me, for the function part of its job. I would carry it any night to my shooting bench for some target illumination. Unless I used goggles for the spill light and a bee keeper’s suit for the swarm of mosquitoes that are coming, I might be done in a hurry, though.
I like that you chose the single copper plate. I also like that you tried it with reflectors, good way to experiment. I too am looking at combinations of reflectors, to use in the group with lenses.
I can say that I would have installed a custom lens arrangement instead, but in some situations—money aside—the reality is that a cluster of reflectors can often be very beneficial over giant lenses in this range—this size of light. Reflectors from a known host also have a known beam profile and capability. If 3 fit, than 3 will work, and it’s get to the next task. Lenses have to do much more than simply fit inside a shell! A single lens will take some effort to tune the optical system to that host, because it would take more than one primary lens to achieve focus near that copper plate, while keeping a “known performance” level. If a 225-250mm aspheric lens was used with even a more shallow 0.40 NA to help lower lens weight, just imagine how much glass would still be at the front. You would feel it alright. A reflector and G2 trio isn’t a bad option in his case.
Special method and “no green”? I always called that proper dedoming, not special. Someone figured out it’s special when you don’t damage the item being used as the centerpiece. Heh! I’ve seen the “green”, and seen it well, but not from my own dedome. (Stock OLight factory dedomes, clean, but greens everywhere. Simple fix with new LED.) You can “spray” LEDs with a lot of things to influence their color, put glues around the die to keep 450nm bouncing around, they don’t really care until you start blocking lots of light to cause a thermal runaway cato failure. Heck, you can color the die with crayola crayons if you want, just use the right color. Don’t hold me accountable for the bond wires, burnt LED, and giving away the $1300 secret. I mean, taking a wild guess. I didn’t do it.
88mm per reflector. Hmm. 3* L-RADWs might fit in there. Kidding, kidding.
Way to go on the throw and the light. Hope to see you keep your imagination working hard.
Not me, but if it’s a good picture, throw some word or username in it like some of us do so we get credit when it’s tossed around the web.
But that is the stock Feilong D80 lens I think, right? The base of the light head looks like a J20 head base, but doesn’t use the same machining cuts as it internally. If it did, you could really up the ante of that light with “the driver”, for the J20 builds. Speaking of that…
That is a very nice looking build, part of why the J20 was picked for the monsters in the making—the cooling head is similar on the FeiLong, but a section of head material (~7 fins) shorter in length than the J20. I know theres a few stock lenses which will smoke that BV lens if you ever consider the upgrade. Those bezel spikes, I wouldn’t want to be in a hurry and have it roll off a table to land on a shoe. Bye bye big toe.
