I do not own a lathe (but my neighbor does)

I own a Trek 6300 and a Lapierre Zesty
I gave my Silverback MTB to my brother in law who is still a student and who enjoys mountain biking a lot more than I have time for. I would love to mod and give him this light as well, to "open" his eyes towards proper lights.
I don't have a lathe, but lots of friends with lots of tools :)
Thanks for the giveaway. I’d love to be in, I practise nighttime mtb, with a variety of flashlights depending on the situation, but unfortunately I don’t have access to a lathe. So good luck you machinist bikers!
- is from EU or Central Europe countries (because shipping issues) I’m in France, even if it doesn’t matter any more.
- became member of BLF before 13th August 2014 Check
- can do driver change and will do brief review of the stock and moded light I’m an electronics engineer so no problem for electronics but I’m not a mechanical engineer… I have basic skills though and know people that have a lathe. I can do a quick review. I already did reviews you can check here and here
one post per member and notice if he is the MTB or any other type of cyclist I do practice Mountain Bike. Here are my two bikes: I only go MTB during the day but I’ve been thinking about riding at night for quite some time. As you can see my bikes lack some lumens for that though.
Overall I would be more than happy to get and review that light!
I am a regular Mountain Biker and I, together with my two sons, usually ride at night. Each of our bikes have SolarStorm X2 bike lights installed. Since I’m into modding, I replaced the emitters in my X2 with XM-L2 T6 3Bs because I like a warmer tint. I also modified the MCPCBs like this:
However the X2’s throw is limited and I can’t see far enough when riding in a highway at night so I added a SingFire SF90 beside it. The X2 now serves as my Low Beam and the SF90, which I modified with a dedomed XM-L2 T6 1B on modded MCPCB, is now my High Beam, and my bike now looks like this:
If I win that bike light I think I could have both high beam and low beam because I’m planning on dedoming the LEDs for throw (aside from the driver change that you wish). The 6 LED set-up would automatically cause a wide bright spill even with dedomed LEDs.
I ride a mountain bike occasionally. Don't have a lathe, but haven't met a light I couldn't modify with my drill press and imagination. Thank you for the opportunity ledoman and GearBest.
ImA4Wheelr, so you think you could mod it with drill press and I should count you in? You might be right.
There you'll have to drill two step ring. The outer to fit diameter of the new driver (ie. 28mm) and the second deeper with about 26mm dia so the elements from the circuit would take a place. Hope you understand what I mean.
I can. I've done stuff like that plenty of times. Just make a jig for the head so that it can be rotated against a high speed cutting and/or an end mill bit. There are other ways as well.
