This is a rather unusual light. Its C8/C10 sized and styled but it is a zoomie. It has a far bigger lens than the Trustfire Z5 and I suspect that with an XM-L/2.8A driver mod it would outperform the Z5 but for a whole lot less money.
The only question is whether the pill is decent. Sadly that cannot be seen fully from the images.
That is very, very interesting. It suggests that this new Small Sun could be one heck of a light with a well driven XM-L in it. A well driven X9 only hits around 32K throw lux.
Hmm that does look pretty nice. Wish they would start using XR-E R2 bin instead of the old Q5 that they apparently made 10 billion of and give them out like candy.
I wouldn't put an XM-L in it though due to the surface brightness issue as well as how it puts more light off to the sides. I mean, there is a Yetz R9 or something that already uses XM-L and has a quite big head/aspheric to go with it. Driven poorly but Id think that would be a better starting point.
R2 v XM-L, well it depends if you are looking for pure throw or flexibility. I have an HS-802 clone, the Trustfire USA168 modded with a 1.4A single mode plus I have a MCU-C88 which is stock. Both are pretty much pure throwers. This C10-s zoomie is more something to toy with. I may get one and see how it is on the Q5 before trying an XM-L in it.
I think I might order this one. This is the size of a HS-802 (when fully zoomed) but using an aspheric lens instead. It should be getting in the neighborhood of 40k or more lux.
[edit] I just ordered it! Thanks for the heads-up!
Just take one more look…hit that link…there aren’t any other aspheric lens that large in this price range…just put it in your cart…you don’t have to buy it…this is Manafont…you will have it in 2 weeks…Christmas is near…
gorann, you maybe misunderstood me, I want to modify this small sun light with this lens + an xm-l. But it depends how will perform the original lens.
On the other hand I have a flood to throw light with above mentioned dx 44mm lens, and this is one of my favorite light, almost 60k lux in throw state...
OK, OK, I'm in. Not the right season for waiting for your verdicts.
Curious if it will beat my UltraOK C8 Q5, which is driven at 1.75A.
Edit: The zooming action seems to be the standard push-pull, not by rotation (as described).
Edit Edit: I now see that the emitter comes quite close to the lens when zoomed out, so there is enough space for the zooming threads to remain hidden inside the head even when fully extended.
