A note… thought it might be worth stating some of what goes into making any of this stuff with copper. I just took on modding an X6/X5 for an old friend from the other place and let me tell you, it’s work! I spent 4 hours in front of the lathe making 2 heatsinks from Tellurium Copper, then 3 more hours assembling the Triple X6 and Quad X5 with spring bypasses and all. Maybe people that don’t have a lathe don’t realize the hours it takes to turn something out of that bar, but it DOES take a lot of time and effort. A CNC machine has to be programmed, programs have to be written, tested, fine tuned and tweaked. It’s not magic, it’s work. To make a complete head of the caliber represented here for $44? Insane!
Go look at prices on large enough round stock to make this stuff… I paid $96 for a 12” bar of Tellurium Cu. And then there’s the optics and mcpcb and lens and and and… See? He’s giving away his time, as I so often do, and barely recouping parts costs.
There should be 200 people lined up for these, if only y’all knew what he’s offering here…
Yup, still in. I spend a bit of time thinking about switches. Came up with a mod for one of the small switches Match used to mod the tail cap of a AA minimag to handle more than just 1/2A. It’s in process but changes the internals so the spring doesn’t carry the bulk of the current.
I am in for a whole copper quad host light or two. That sounds fantastic! I would be happy with a mechanical clicky. Those tube patterns look very nice. Prefer the one on the right slightly more but would be pleased with either
Hahaha, I don’t even know if I can machine it! I got a foot of tubing for the battery tube and a couple of inches of solid bar stock for the tail cap. Positive mental attitude and all that… VERY eager to see this awesome CNC machined copper head! The 3D rendering looks awesome, can’t wait, might have to get some XHP-50’s to put in it.
I make whatever a whim guides me to make. Y’all oughta know that by now! lol I already have a long tube C8, it’s a 304SS tube made for me by Bucket that is presently attached to the half pound copper pill melded to a C8 head.
As long as the tube has male threads on both ends I can make a longer two cell tube from it. Solarforce L2X is more difficult since it has less overlap in the head but a 2x18650 C8 is no problem. I’ve only done the 502b that way so far because I added so much copper to it to handle the extra heat. This head will be ideal for an extended tube since it will already be made to handle the extra wattage. I have a feeling that a few of us will be doing different versions of 2x18XXX tubes for this puppy. I’m a bit jealous of those with a lathe but in all honesty I wouldn’t know what to do with one if I had it and enjoy the challenge of getting by without one.
