If Swearing is rude lol Iād suggest never take a holiday to certain parts of Australia lol! We have some of finest bogans in the world. (red necks or yokels) which ever you prefer lol
I didnāt click the ārudeā button but for whatever itās worth, when I saw a candidateās talking point ā a controversial one ā
I thought that might not work well in this thread where people are asked to stay nonpolitical.
Talking points will only get harder to self-filter til the election, as what seems obvious to one of us may seem mistaken to someone else.
Thereās no ābacking away slowly with no responseā button.
I think swearing, especially online, is one of those areas that some folks are always going to be more comfortable with than others. For me personally, if the kid is old enough to be here, or even old enough to be able to read over my shoulder, then they probably already know those words anyway and I donāt worry too much about them reading them online. Those words are out there, in the world, and as a parent I think its futile to try and shield my kids from them. Video sites scare me a lot more than text-based forums.
So yeah, personally, I swear online sometimes. Iāve even done it here. But then I swear in real life sometimes, too. My online personality and my real-life personality are in sync. Honestly I think its kinda silly how we give so much more power to some words than others, even when they mean the same exact thing. So If any of you ever meet me in real life you know exactly what to expect
All that is kinda beside the point though, because this place isnāt a democracy and swearing is clearly against the rules. So while I personally donāt find it rude, it is inappropriate here by decree and I can see how others may choose to click that button because of it.
i LOVE the idea of a NICE (or THANKS) button!
-> Members collect āthanksā for helpful comments or good reviews - anything that helps the community
-> that number should be be public below the Username so anyone (especially newbees) can easy identify our heroes
-> only 5 (or10) āniceā can be given per user and day
-> a list of ānicest posts of the day/week/month/all timesā would be great
Personally it has nothing to do with kids (I donāt have any). I just donāt like to see it myself. I wonāt go into my philosophical reasons for that because it would definitely be divisive.
That being said, I probably wouldnāt hit the Rude button anyways if it wasnāt against the rules like emarkd said. I wonāt usually fault people for staying within the rules. On the flip side, if there wasnāt a rule and profanity was the norm, I wouldnāt be here to start with.
ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦.
In regards to the nice button, Iād fear Rude people using it to get a lot of āNiceā in their tank then use that to be really awful in a couple of posts without going in the red so to speak, or having multiple accounts to up their Nice level. As long as SB still gets notified when a post is especially rude, I suppose a āniceā button would bring an air of positivity.
Iāve often wanted to give posts a +1 or a ālolā or a āThanks!ā without posting a new one-word comment. Iād want it to be clear which comment I was thanking them for though. Similarly, if someone lets me know Iām being rude, Iād want to know which comment(s) bothered them. I can guess sometimes, but Iāve often found my guesses are wrong.
Ha, maybe that would happen. āReportā sounds ok, but I like how the Rudeness-meter is a form a self-governance instead of implying there will be an investigation for every click.
A nice or like button will create a ranking system among members and people will automatically judge others based on that. Much like how in CPF your knowledge is questioned by your join date and count postā¦ Opinions from people with a low post count are often considered invalid.
About being maked rude for expressing a personal opinion, I think thatās not what the rude button was made forā¦ People canāt start a somewhat controversial topic on a public forum and expect everyone to agree with them. This is why I did not comment on that thread, basically there were 2 or 3 general points of views and they were marking each other rude, how lame.
I think this whole thing should be scrapped. Itās going to create animosity amongst the community. Just my opinion. Itās one thing when members try to sell kitchens, or cause trouble. Thatās another story.
Dude, itās a good thing. I donāt know how you violated so many rules and didnāt see it. Rude is the only rule you didnāt violate with that post.
