Need Recommendation on AA Headlight

Sorry if there’s topics out there already about this but I can’t find anything asking for exactly what I need which is:
A single AA powered headlight that has white and red light. But I don’t want a battery pack at the back of the headstrap like so many AA powered headlights seem to have (just seems like something I’d break too easily). I’d like some thing like the Ultrafire H2 or similar zebralights but with red light as well. Also going with the budget theme I’m looking to spend around $50.
Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

Welcome to the madness, Quixos!

I can’t think of a single AA that has both normal LED and red LED. I’ve noticed some 3xAAA lights that do it. Also fenix have a 2xAA headlamp that has an additional red LED: http://www.fenixlight.com/viewnproduct.asp?id=113

Why do you need the red LED? If its purely that you want to preserve your night vision, zebralight make some single AA that have a low-low that will help to preserve night vision.

If you’re willing to add a few more bucks for the flashlight, I would highly recommend Zebralight (zebralight.com).

There are 2 types, flashlight and headlamp. Both of the lights come with headban. So you can use headlamp as flashlight and vice versa.

If you need a lot of red light ( ~ 100 lumen)

ZebraLight H51r Red LED AA Headlamp - 64 $

or

ZebraLight H51Fr Floody Red LED AA Headlamp - 64 $

but they have only one red LED

for red light you could cover the lens with a red film or diffuser lens.

i have a bag full of party air balloons which i use to cover up my flashlight bezels/lenses with and produce disco

Yeah, finally found a good use for “strobe”, eh?

There are a lot of headlamps with a red LED built in but I havent seen one with a good emitter like Cree or so. Most of them use 10-18 little LEDs.

I have such a beast… 1xAA; Luxeon (62 lumens) with a flip-over diffuser; 2-red LEDs; 1-blue LED; battery sits behind emitter (on your forehead).

I don’t know if links to commercial sites are allowed here; so just google what I pasted below, you’ll find it for a shade under $23.

Rayovac SE1WHLT-BA 1-Watt Sportsman Head Flashlight with 1 AA Battery Include

Oh yeah… and it lasts about 60-90 min on an alkaline, but lasts a heck of a lot longer if you throw in a Lithium battery (obviously).

I have this one and it is great. way better than my coleman ones. great throw, it has a pretty big reflector. It greatly outshines my other headlamps rated for over 100 lumens. there is an on of button which i like, as most have just a switch. it is on sale for $20 in stores.

I wouldn’t mind hearing more about this headlamp. Reviews on website sound good. I’m looking for something mostly floody though. Isn’t this more of a thrower? Can it be diffused easily enough? I’m looking for one rugged enough for a commercial work environment in fairly hazardous conditions. It’s not as bright on high compared to the Fenix I was looking at (found here) but does have good runtime, and brightness may be just enough on high.

Thanks for the suggestions but when I was out and about today and found these 2 in the shops that both meet requirements nicely.

Here’s the one I bought:

http://www.kathmandu.com.au/Accessories/Lighting\_&\_Optical\_/Headtorches/61143/Head_Torch_Raven_35.html

It’s small single AA powered with red and white light. And cheap.

Here is option number 2:

Looked good but it’s a little bit bigger and a little bit more expensive.
