Hi guys just a quick question if i have a protected lithium battery and the protection circuit cuts in before the batteries dies when in use can the battery be used again? and if so how do you re-set the protection circuit.

The charger resets the cell by pushing a voltage in the opposite direction.

Best to keep an eye on voltages. They usually kick in on over-current but not all kick in on voltage. Just run a light till it noticeable dims then check the voltage. If it is still above 3V then fine, if it is below 2.8V after a couple of seconds then the protection circuit is not cutting in on low voltage. Most don't.

XTAR MP1 charger can "revive" batteries which were discharged to a lower point below their protection circuit setting. That's unverified personaly but supposedly it does.
However i would not risk it if the battery in question was somehow overly discharged and left there for a while... instant toss for me. (Lets say sitting at below 2,4V for days or more).
I've got a hobby charger with a nice digital display that will charge at rates from 50mAh-5Ah, I fly/build RC planes so I've got quite the selection of batteries.
I've over discharged li-ion cells several times and then brought them back up to a sensible voltage by charging them at 50mAh. When I'm charging high powered batteries or when I'm doing something a little off-spec like this I do put the cells in a flame proof lipo bag, just in case anything bad happens...which it hasn't.

if a Batt is not charging due to over discharge protected or not you can parallel jump it
i have done this many times with Batts NiMH and Li-ion and revived a dead cell, take a Batt of the same v's and mAh put both Batts side by side an elastic band is good to hold them together a paper clip or any sort of light wire will do for the next bit
put paper clip or wire on a flat surface put the Batts - Bottom end on so both touch the metal now make contact with with the + top ends paper clip or wire 1-2 seconds only IF UNSURE PLEASE WEAR GLOVES as heat is generated keep a tub of water on hand to put them in if all goes wrong if all goes well you can jump start a dead Battery
