Any Wood Carvers Here?

Just wondering if there are any wood carvers here? A lot of people here have knives. Anyone use them for carving?

I don’t have any appreciable skills in that area but I have played around with spare bits of wood lately. It’s mainly been with working on hiking sticks until recently.

Now I have all those that I need and I’m thinking about taking a few spare pieces of wood that I have laying around and learning the most basic aspects of carving. My aspirations don’t extend beyond that. Anyone?

If anyone else has made any hiking sticks feel free to share that info as well. I’ve just taken straight branches and after taking the bark off stained them, put a rubber boot on one end and carved the other end round, drilled a hole though the side for a lanyard (shoe string) and in some cases removed more material where the hand would grip the pole and flush mounted a piece of leather (from the tongue of old leather rock climbing shoes).

Do I carve wood? Yes. Am I good at it? No. In the past I made a hiking stick with a leather handle and leather strap, I then glued a compass onto the top. Don't have any pictures of it cause I gave it away. I'm currently working on one for myself which I'm planning on making into a totem pole of sorts.

Here the first face is.
